Chapter 4
Chapter 4
I hired a lawyer to draft the divorce agreement. The division of assets was complicated and
would take time to settle, which gave me an opportunity to recover physically.
Sofia, brazen and relentless, kept sending me photos and videos of her entanglements with
Ruben. I remained silent, accepting everything without a word. These would serve as strong
vidence when the time came for the divorce.
Ruben, oblivious, continued treating me with the same care and tenderness as
before–perhaps even more so.
He would often press his ear against my stomach, listening for sounds from the baby that was no longer there.
I played along with his act, pretending nothing had changed.
Ruben bought books about pregnancy and childcare, enthusiastically studying how to care for a pregnant woman, how to ensure proper nutrition, and even paid for parenting classes.
He promised to make me the happiest mother and said he would shoulder the responsibility of raising our child.
I feigned happiness, never giving him reason to doubt me.
But in the middle of the night, disappointment would creep in.
Once, we had loved each other deeply. Now, we were strangers sharing a bed, each dreaming of different futures.
Sofia grew bolder, even inviting us to meals together.
At the table, she dressed provocatively, using her foot under the table to tease Ruben.
“I really envy your wife. To have such a wonderful husband–Mr. Miller is not only successful in business but also utterly devoted, with no room in his eyes for anyone else,” Sofia said with a meaningful smile, clearly aiming to provoke me.

I remained composed, but Ruben’s expression darkened. Sofia, sensing the tension, changed the topic.
When Ruben went to the restroom, Sofia leaned back in her chair and lazily looked at me.
“I didn’t expect you to be so tolerant. Your husband’s cheating doesn’t bother you at all? I’ve
sent you so many photos and videos, yet they’ve done nothing.”
The pain that once tore through me had now settled into acceptance. I had made my decision to let go.
I smiled faintly.
“Just wait a little longer. Once I divorce him, you can take your place.”
Her expression twisted, her smugness replaced by something darker.
My phone buzzed.
The lawyer had finalized the divorce agreement based on the evidence I provided. He assured me my chances in court were strong.
I let out a bitter laugh. We had finally come to this.
During my free time, I packed up my belongings.
Before long, the divorce papers were in my hands.
Though it hurt, I knew I had to find the courage to let everything go,
That evening, Ruben came home with a beautifully crafted cake.
I looked at him, puzzled.
He smiled, gently tapping my forehead, his tone carrying a hint of grievance.
“Darling, did you forget? Today is our wedding anniversary.”
1 froze, suddenly realizing.
Chapter 4
Every year, we had prepared surprises for each other on our anniversary. Neither of us had ever forgotten–until now,
1 quickly apologized to Ruben.
“It’s okay, darling. You’re pregnant and working so hard. Let me take care of our anniversary this year. I know you love me,” he said, wrapping me in a warm embrace, his gaze tender.
en, he pulled out a small box, looking at me with anticipation.
“Sabrina, open it. It’s my gift for you.”
His eyes sparkled with happiness as he began to talk about the future.
“When the baby is born, we’ll celebrate another anniversary, I wonder if the baby will look more like you or me.”
“We should start thinking about names too. I’ve been going through the dictionary and found some I like. I’ll show them to you soon.”
“But no matter what, you’re the most important to me. Let’s welcome this little life together, and we’ll bring Grandma to live with us. She’ll be so happy to see the baby.”
A wave of bitterness surged in my chest, replacing the numbness with sharp, familiar pain,
He was planning for the future, while I was planning to leave.
How did we get to this point?
Fighting back tears, I pulled out my own box and handed it to him.
Inside were two pieces of paper and a stack of photos.
The photos showed him and Sofia, their explicit moments still capable of stabbing at my
heart.
I placed the abortion record and the divorce papers in front of him, watching his face slowly turn pale.

“Ruben, let’s get a divorce,” I said calmly.
