Love Story4–Chapter 1
pulled me aside mysteriously, telling me Jacob Walker was planning to propose.
Twenty–five years of knowing each other, five years of being together. Our families had pestered us endlessly, and finally, the day had arrived. I had already prepared myself–I’d styled my hair, bought a dress, and even practiced my expressions and responses countless
ques at home. I was ready, just waiting for the moment.
On my birthday, Jacob, who was usually carefree, dressed up in a formal suit for once. With
a bouquet of bright red roses in his hands, he walked toward me, his gaze so tender it was
almost drowning me. Franklin took the lead, shouting, “Proposal! Proposal! Proposal!”
Blushing, I looked up at Jacob, my eyes filled with anticipation. Friends nudged me forward,
and I rushed toward him, ready to fall into his arms. But just as I was about to, he shifted slightly, stepping aside, and I nearly stumbled. Franklin caught me just in time.
I looked at Jacob, confused, “Jacob, what’s going on?”
Without even a glance in my direction, Jacob walked past me, reaching out to gently take
the hand of the woman in a white dress standing beside me. Dropping to one knee, he
kissed the back of her foot with reverence,
“My one and only princess, will you marry me?”
The murmurs around us grew louder, curious stares fixed on me.
“Wait! Isn’t today supposed to be Sophie Young’s day? How did the leading lady suddenly
change?”
“They’ve been together for five years, right? How did Jacob suddenly propose to someone
else?”
“What’s going on? Are we supposed to stick around for this?”
The blood drained from my face. I felt like I’d plunged into an ice pit, shivering from head
to toe. Because the woman Jacob was proposing to was my best friend, Melody Adams.

Love Story 4 Chapter 1
I had invited her here today, hoping she’d witness this major moment in my life. Before leaving, I’d even teased her for dressing more elegantly than me. She’d laughed and said she wanted to help make my moment unforgettable. I never expected this kind of “support.”
Melody looked at me, flustered, but a glint of satisfaction flashed in her eyes.
“Sophie, I’m sorry–I had no idea Jack would…”
Jack? When had they become so close?
I fixed her with a bitter stare, my voice cold as ice. “When did you two start seeing each
other?”
Her eyes reddened, and she looked helplessly at Jacob, who immediately pulled her into his
arms, scolding me, “Sophie, don’t be so harsh. We’re a legitimate couple. We’ve been
together for two years now.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. It was absurd. The man I’d thought of as my boyfriend had been hiding a “real” girlfriend all this time. They’d been together for two years, and I hadn’t noticed.
Laughing through tears, I asked, “She’s your girlfriend, then what am I? Jacob, what were
these five years to you?”
He looked at me, annoyed. “I’ve always thought of you as my ‘bro.‘ If your best friend and your ‘bro‘ are together, you should be happy for us.”
Even Franklin couldn’t hold back anymore. Angrily, he grabbed Jacob and punched him. squarely in the face.
“Jacob, what the hell are you talking about? ‘Bro‘? This is what real friendship looks like. I’ve never heard someone make cheating sound so righteous. You’re unbelievable.”
“Franklin, are you crazy? You’re my friend, aren’t you supposed to back me up?”
“Back you up? Go to hell. From today on, I don’t have a friend like you.” Franklin’s fists landed again and again, each blow making Jacob howl.
