Chapter 10
After the presentations, I politely declined the NYU professor’s invitation to dinner.
I had to go home,
Ethan chased after me, his hair messy from running.
“Sarah, wait!”
“I called you so many times, but you didn’t answer.”
I asked him coldly, “Is there something you need?”
He paused, taking a moment to adjust to my tone.
“Are you still mad at me?”
I shook my head.
Ethan seemed to have grasped at a lifeline. “Sarah, I’m not with Ashley.”
I followed his lead. “So?”
His voice was humble. “Can we go back to how things were?”
“No.”
Ethan noticed John standing next to me and scoffed. “Right, you already have another man.
So you came here for him all along, pretending to visit me, pretending to love me. It was all
fake.”
“Oh, and by the way, John, Sarah is on her period. Must have been inconvenient for you.”
SLAP
I slapped him without hesitation.
“Clean your mouth before you speak.”
