Suddenly, Josie felt as if Maybelle’s voice sent shivers d
down her spine.
For some reason. Maybelle seemed different recently. She still looked like herself, but her demeanors changed completely. Somehow, Josie just knew she coullect simply manipulate Maybelle like anymore.
Maybelle used to be so innocent and naive, but now, she’s more defensive, more indifferent. She would definitely stand up for herself if anyone dared to mess with her.

Maybelle didn’t pay any attention to those people. Instead, she only wanted to speak to Josie. “So, it was you who told them I was adopted!” The question took Jour off guard, but she replied anyway. “Yeah, it was. What Are you gonna deny it?”
To Josie’s surprise, Maybelle only grinned. “Well, thanks, then. It’s been more than two years that you finally decided to clear my name of being broke. I guess all those presents I bought you weren’t at all in vain

The Maybelle she knew would never expose her like this lack in the days, she was so considerate of Josie’s little ego because she knew Josie was not as well off as her. Even when she bought her gifts, she would never embarrass her in front of everyone.
Josie gritted her teeth. It seemed that it was indeed a heavy blow on Maybelle that now Rhea was back. She’s too defeated to maintain her goody Two shon façade

She glanced over Maybelle with some contempt and said, “You did send me gifts, but they were just some cheap crap. And who knows? Maybe they were knock–offs. Why do you bring it up now! I can just give them back if that’s what you want.”
Josie knew they weren’t knock–offs. They bought most of them at the mall. Maybelle paid right in front of her.
She was certain that Maybelle wouldn’t hold such small favors against her. They were gifts, for god’s sake! She got them fair and square. It would be too petty of Maybelle to ask for them back now.
However, linle did she know that Maybelle was not a push–over anymore. It would be petty of her, sure, but she didn’t care. All she wanted to do right now was to expose her.
“Alright.” Maybelle pointed at the necklace Josie was wearing and grinned, “That was the birthday present I bought for myself last year. I hadn’t really got a proper chance to wear it out before you borrowed it. I would like to have it back.”
