Chapter 8
Cecelia gloated as she looked at Ruby. After a while, a sly look suddenly flashed briefly on Cecelia’s face.
Ruby immediately caught on to the microexpression and knew that something terrible was about to happen.
Before she could even figure it out, the door behind her was pushed open. Cecelia immediately hopped to her feet and ran toward Henry and Ian, who’d just entered, with the agreement in her hand. She was exclaiming loudly in delight.
“Henry, look! I’ve got something to show you!”
Ruby felt her chest tighten when she saw what Cecelia was doing. Her first instinct was to snatch away the agreement. She knew that her plans would be completely messed up if Henry and Ian found out about her agreement with Rose. She would then never be able to leave as planned.
So, Ruby decided to burn the agreement in the end.
As she set the document on fire, Cecelia purposely went up to Ruby and pretended to trip over her, falling backward.
When Henry and Ian saw that Cecelia had tripped on Ruby, their faces turned thunderous at once as they rushed toward her.
Ian grabbed Ruby and shoved her harshly to the ground. Henry then quickly scooped Cecelia up with anger in his eyes.
“You fucking crazy bitch of a woman! How dare you try to hurt Cecelia? If anything happens to her today, I’ll never forgive you!”
“How dare you lay a finger on her right under our noses? Ruby Lynch, you’re getting too bold!”
As Ian and Henry continued berating Ruby with their words, Cecelia then raised her hand, which had been slightly tinged red by the heat of the fire, and began to sob uncontrollably.
Henry’s heart nearly leaped from his mouth when he saw the tiny burn mark, about as big as a fingernail, on Cecelia’s hand. Meanwhile, Ian seethed with unbridled fury. He grabbed Ruby by her hair, pulled her upward, and then pushed her face toward the burning papers, holding her in place as the flames licked at her.
The fire quickly spread to Ruby’s hair and started singeing her clothes as well.
“Ahh!”
Black smoke poured out as the smell of burnt flesh and fabric permeated the air.
Ruby’s bare skin had been badly burned and turned a bright red color. Blood began pouring from the ruined flesh as it sizzled and crackled in the heat.
Ruby was in so much pain that she rolled around on the ground screaming in agony. However, Henry just continued blowing at Cecelia’s mildly heated hand, completely ignoring Ruby’s pain.
lan thought that Ruby brought everything upon herself anyway, so she didn’t deserve any pity.
He then bent down, wanting to pick up the remaining parts of the document that hadn’t been burned to see what they were. However, he suddenly caught sight of Ruby’s shoulder where a birthmark was.
The moment lan saw the birthmark, he was in so much shock that his eyes shook at once. He quickly straightened up and demanded, “Why do you have a bunny–shaped birthmark on your body?”
Henry turned as soon as he heard lan’s words. “What? That’s impossible! Only your sister has a birthmark like that—”
Ian and Henry exchanged a glance. They each couldn’t believe their eyes. They were just about to get the guards to hold Ruby still so that they could take a closer look at her, when Cecelia’s face turned ashen at their words and she immediately felt an immense fear.
So, she pretended to faint, conveniently knocking over a glass of wine and covering Ruby in the alcohol.
“Henry.. Henry, it hurts…”
As soon as lan and Henry saw what happened with Cecelia, they stopped caring about Ruby’s birthmark and immediately hurried over to Cecelia instead. Henry scooped her up from the ground and ran out while lan took out his phone to call the doctor.
Nobody cared about Ruby, who was now completely engulfed in flames on the floor as the fire clung to the alcohol spilled on her.
Ruby fel the immensa pain of being burned alive spreading all throughout her body. It felt like millions of tiny needles prickling mercilessly into her skin and nerve endings. She swore she could feel the pain in her bones.
She soon spasmed uncontrollably on the ground, flailing her arms and legs about trying to escape the tire of hell. She then did her best to roll around on the ground to put out the flames. The fire had also burned off her birthmark, leaving the skin and flesh charred to a crisp.
Nobody could even tell what shape the birthmark had been in anymore.
