Chapter 21
Ian reacted quickly and pushed Ruby to the side. However, he didn’t manage to dodge Cecelia himself, and the blade pierced his shoulder. Crimson blood stained his shirt, and his face turned as white as a sheet.
“Ian!” Henry exclaimed in shock. He rushed forward and kicked Cecelia to the floor, holding her down.
Crashing onto the floor, she thrashed violently and managed to stab Henry.
Henry let out a grunt. With the last of his strength, he broke the joint in her wrist.
“Ah!” Cecelia screeched. The knife in her hand fell to the side. She struggled to climb to her feet, but Henry forced her back down.
“Let me go! Let me go!” she shrieked hysterically, her eyes flashing with mania.
Henry’s face was frosty. “Cecelia, you’re done for,” he said lowly.
In the hospital, the smell of antiseptics was pungent and cold.
Ian and Henry were rushed into the emergency room. Ruby stood in the hallway, coldly gazing at the operating room’s shut door. She was completely unaffected.
She knew that Ian and Henry had only gotten hurt to protect her.
However, this didn’t change anything.
In her past life, she had been tortured in prison. Her arms and legs had been broken, and there wasn’t an inch of untouched skin on her body. That pain was still fresh in her mind.
This was karma; they had merely gotten their retribution.
Finally, the lights in the operating room turned off. The doctor emerged, looking exhausted.
The patients are finally out of the woods. Their injuries were not severe. They just need some rest to make a full recovery.”
Ruby nodded but didn’t say much.
Christopher and Anna rushed to the hospital. When they saw that Ruby was alive and well, they collectively let out a sigh of relief.
“Ruby, are you okay?” Anna asked with concern, her eyes turning red.
Ruby nodded slightly. “I’m fine,” she said, her voice completely devoid of warmth.
Christopher pulled a long face. “Cecelia has been taken in by the police. We’ll make her pay for what she’s done. She won’t be leaving her prison cell for the rest of her life. Also, we’ll make sure that she won’t have an easy time there.”
Ruby didn’t respond. Instead, she turned around and went into the hospital room.
Ian and Henry had regained consciousness inside the room. They were both a bit pale, but when they saw Ruby, their eyes lit up.
“Are you airight, Ruby?” lan asked with urgency in his voice. He struggled to sit up.
Ruby gazed at him coolly, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she said, “I’m fine. It’s you guys who nearly lost your lives trying to saye me.”
Henry’s eyes shimmered with hurt. “Ruby, so long as you’re fine, these minor injuries are nothing,” he muttered quietly.
Ruby said nothing. She walked over to the window and gazed outside.
Ian and Henry exchanged complicated looks
Even though Ruby’s attitude was still very detached, at least she didn’t just walk away.
Perhaps, this was already the greatest source of comfort they could get.
Over the next few days, Ian and Henry used their injuries as an excuse to ask Ruby to take care of theru.
“Ruby, my shoulder hurts. Could you pour me a glass of water?” Ian asked flatteringly, his eyes shining with anticipation.
Ruby glanced at him jeily. She didn’t say anything, but she still silently poured him a glass and placed it by his bed.
ད
When Henry saw this, he hurriedly added, “Ruby, my hand is a little numb. Could you peel an apple for me?”
As per usual, Ruby didn’t answer. Yet, she still picked up the fruit knife and quietly began to peel the apple for him. Ian’s and Henry’s eyes flickered with joy. They could sense that her walls were coming down slightly.
