Chapter 18

Ruby spent the next few days in her hotel. Every day, someone would drop by to beg for her forgiveness.
First, it was Christopher and Anna. Then, lan and Henry also came. They took turns appearing and were even willing to stand outside in the rain for a whole day just to catch a glimpse of her.
However, not once did Ruby show her face.
She stood in front of the window, gazing at those familiar figures outside with a cold gaze. The sight of them didn’t even cause a ripple in her heart.
She knew that they genuinely regretted it and wanted to make things up to her.
However, she didn’t need that.
She had already booked her departing flight. She was ready to leave this place for good and start a new life.
However, the day that she was supposed to go to the airport, she learned that all the flights and trains had been blocked.
Standing in the airport, she gazed up at the words “flight canceled” on the signboard with a frown.
At that moment, Ian and Henry walked over.
“Ruby, we won’t let you leave,” Ian said firmly. “It was so difficult to track you down, so we will never let you leave again.”
Ruby regarded them coolly. “Do you think that this can make me stay?” she said sarcastically.
A flash of hurt crossed Henry’s eyes. He said quietly, “Ruby, we just want to have a chance to make things up to you. A week–give us a week, okay? If you still can’t forgive us after a week, then we’ll let you go and never go searching for you ever again.”
Ruby looked at their agonized faces calmly. Suddenly, she broke into a smile and nodded.
“Fine, I’ll give you a week. If you still haven’t won my forgiveness by then, then I’ll leave. You’ll have to swear that you’ll never come looking for me again, and that we’ll never see each other again.”
Ian and Henry exchanged looks, a glimmer of hope shining in their eyes.
They knew that this was their final chance.
Ruby stood at the door of the Dalton residence, her cool gaze sweeping over this familiar building. Three years ago, she had left this place with despair and a battered body.
Today, she was going to step into this place again, but there wasn’t even a stir of emotions within her.
Christopher and Anna were already waiting by the door. When they saw her, they immediately welcomed her.
“Ruby, you’re finally back….” Anna said in a choked voice, her eyes reddening.
Ruby nodded indifferently and didn’t say much.
lan and Henry stood off to the side, staring at her intently with complicated looks.
“Ruby, we’ve redecorated your room. Do you like it?” Ian asked cautiously, as if he were afraid he would upset her.
Ruby followed them upstairs. The moment she opened the door, her eyes widened with shock.
Her room looked luxurious now. There were photos of her on the wall, and the bed was covered in all kinds of gifts, each of them priceless.
“We got all of this for you,” Christopher said, trying to flatter her. “If there’s anything else you need, just let us know.”

Surveying the room coldly, she said mockingly, “Do you think that these things can make up for the harm that you’ve caused me?”
Christopher and Anna paled. They parted their lips but couldn’t muster any words.
lan’s gaze filled with hurt. He said in a low voice, “Ruby, we know that these things can’t fully make things up to you. However, we just wanted you to know that we sincerely want to treat you better…”
Without responding, Ruby turned around and walked out of the room.
Over the next few days, the Daltons did everything they could to please her, waiting on her hand and foot.
Christopher and Anna cooked for her every day, preparing her favorite dishes. On the other hand, lan would keep her company daily, taking her to the mall and the theater.
Also, Henry never left her side, his gaze following her wherever she went.
However, Ruby merely regarded them with a detached gaze. All of these attempts failed to tug on her heartstrings.
She knew that they were only trying to please her and make amends just so they would feel less guilty. But she didn’t need that.
