Chapter 6
Hearing Ramon’s accusation, Patricia finally came back to her senses, and seeing the love letters in her hands, she hurriedly put them back into the drawer, stammering an explanation, “I just wanted to help you clean up a bit…” But her explanation was not understood, instead, it made Ramon’s voice turn even colder, “Have you read what was inside?” Patricia was taken aback; she hadn’t expected that to be what he was concerned about. Seeing Ramon’s face darken further, she quickly shook her head, replying, “No, I haven’t read anything.” Hearing her reply, Ramon’s expression finally softened a little, but still, his voice contained a tone of anger as he glared at her. “Get out of here, and don’t touch my things without my permission in the future.” “I’m sorry, it won’t happen again.” Patricia lowered her head, without replying, and walked out of the study directly. After leaving the study, she went straight to her room. She lay down on the bed, but the images of the love letters she had seen in the study kept coming to her mind involuntarily. She had never heard of Ramon having anyone he loved; as long as she could remember, she had never seen any other woman near him, apart from her and Lucia. To whom could these letters be addressed? Could they be for her? As her mind was filled with confusing thoughts, Patricia finally fell asleep, but woke up in the middle of the night. Vaguely, she heard sounds coming from the next room. Lucia was back. Patricia immediately got up, energized, and walked over to the door, which was close enough to them. Since they hadn’t closed the door, she could clearly hear their voices. The first to speak was Lucia, whose voice was full of surprise and joy. “You write me so many love letters in just two days of travel?” As soon as she finished speaking, Ramon’s reply could be heard, laden with a loving and indulgent tone, very similar to the one he used with her before her confession. “You don’t like them?” Lucia, not hiding her happiness, planted a kiss on his cheek, “I love them, I want you to write to me every day.” After her reply, sounds of an intimate encounter followed. And just as the bedroom door closed, Patricia hurriedly walked away from the place. She returned to her bed and closed her eyes, but her face turned pale. For a moment, she felt ridiculous and pathetic. “Patricia, what are you thinking about?” Actually, when she saw the panicked expression on Ramon, an absurd thought had arisen in her heart that those love letters were for her. But after listening to the conversation between Ramon and Lucia, she finally realized how ridiculous her thought was. When the counter reached three days, it was Lucia’s birthday. Ramon had spent a fortune to organize a grand birthday party for her, which was attended by many people. This party wasn’t simply a birthday celebration. During the party, Ramon announced another important piece of news. Soon, he and Lucia would be having their engagement party. As guests came up to congratulate them, Patricia was slightly stunned. Did Ramon really love Lucia that much? It had only been three months, and he had already decided to get engaged to her. Patricia smiled bitterly, looking at the gift in her hands. She never thought that what was initially a farewell gift, would now become a congratulatory gift for their engagement. As the other guests began to disperse, she approached Ramon with the gift in hand, and although she had decided that as long as Ramon was happy, no matter who she was with, she would bless him, at that moment, saying those words of blessing was still painfully difficult. “Ramon, I wish you a happy engagement in advance… May you be happy together until the end of your days.”
