Chapter 2
I thought it would take a long time to pack my things. But after a closer look, there was hardly anything left. Most of my clothes had been chosen by Jensen. Back then, he would say, “Our Anna is the most beautiful princess, so she should look lovely every day.” Now, those clothes were soaked in filthy water, emitting a strange stench. I had gone from the princess in his eyes to a spoiled parasite with a princess complex.
As I moved aside the clothes, photos scattered across the floor. Benjamin used to love taking pictures of me, saying he wanted to capture every moment of me. Whenever we took group photos, the two brothers would always compete to be the one standing closest to me. Now, in every picture of the three of us, my face had been crossed out with a red marker. I couldn’t bear to look anymore. I tossed everything straight into the trash.
Jensen came downstairs with Maya just in time to witness this scene. A flash of surprise crossed his eyes. After all, I once treated these items like treasures. But quickly, his expression turned into a mocking sneer.
“The Miller family’s money–you sure don’t mind wasting it.”
Once, Jensen would spend a fortune just to make me smile. Now, with Maya by his side,
everything I did seemed wrong. I had lost the privilege to be willful and no longer felt the urge to argue. I simply replied, “I’ll pay it back.”
“The Miller family doesn’t care about a bit of money,” he scoffed, “just remember, from now
on, you’re never to trouble Maya again!”
Maya tugged at Jensen’s sleeve, pouting.
“Jensen, don’t waste your time on unnecessary people. I still want to visit the secret spot and watch the stars. Let’s go quickly.”
I froze, halting in my tracks. The “secret spot” Maya mentioned was something Jensen had
created for me when I first arrived at the Miller household. Back then, Mrs. Miller was often
busy with work, so she entrusted my care to Jensen, who was six years older than me. Jensen gave me the best of everything, saying I was his “white moonlight.” He designed an eternal starry sky just for me. That night, under the stars, he gazed at me with a tenderness
that felt infinite.
“Anna, remember, this is your sky, your own love that belongs to no one else.”
Over the past twenty years, we had built up that magical place bit by bit, perfecting our dreamy hideaway. Since then, my heart had leaned toward Jensen. But every time I was about to make a choice, Benjamin would step in with loud protests, leaving everything
unresolved.
Now, though, they had found their new “red roses” and forgotten about me, their faded “moonlight.” But that was alright. Taking a deep breath, I turned and walked away,
fter all, I didn’t want either of them anymore.
