Despite that, Jonathan propped himself up on his arms, his sharp gaze roaming over Cynthia, who was beneath him. Her sun–kissed skin made her appear more vibrant yet carried a delicate beauty.

Jonathan’s voice, hoarse and laced with a magnetic allure, broke the silence. “The Paradise Resort project is about to kick off. I’ll be swamped soon and won’t have the time or energy for nighits like this.”
Cynthia almost blurted out a thankful prayer. But before she could, Jonathan quickly added, “So, shall we go one more round?”
When Cynthia was completely awake, Jonathan had already left for work. She could not remember when she had fallen asleep as she was exhausted. Despite her usual sleep issues, she managed to sleep well
Once Cynthia was up, her body felt fresh and clean, clearly having been showered. She then made herself coffee and checked her phone, only to find many missed calls–most from Lilian and one from Filip
Without hesitation. Cynthia blocked both numbers instead of dialing back.
Meanwhile, at the CEO’s office of BJ Building, Claude was reporting on the current work and upcoming schedule when Jonathan interrupted, “Has Yates Construction’s team arrived for the project summit today?”
Yes, they’ve been waiting in the conference room for quite some time now,” Claude replied.
Today marked the official launch of the Paradise Resort project, with a grand meeting personally chaired by Jonathan. As the main contractor of Paradise Resort, Yates Construction had to be present
“Who’s leading the team?” Jonathan asked.
Claude was caught off guard by Jonathan’s question and answered in detail, “It’s Filip Yates, the current general manager of Yates Construction. He’s fully in charge of the Paradise Resort project.”
A faint smile played on Jonathan’s lips. After the way Cynthia threw Filip over the shoulder last night, Jonathan expected him to be in a hospital bed. “How unexpected,’ he thought.
Half an hour later, Jonathan pushed open the door to the conference room. The room was spacious, with a long table already packed with people on both sides.
Paradise Resort was a massive project involving multiple fields, but at this stage, the focus was mainly on the contractors. Filip and his team sat near the head of the table, close to the seat of authority.
Jonathan headed straight for the head of the table and sat down. He glanced at Filip, who kept his head lowered. Filip’s gaze was on the heap of documents; they appeared distant in his eyes as if he had lost all vitality.
The meeting lasted for four hours until it finally concluded around noon.
Just as the meeting ended, Jonathan called out, “Mr. Yates, you’re aware of the immense scale of the Paradise Resort project and how tight the schedule is, right?”
“Mr. Bennett, Yates Construction will give its utmost effort and not betray BJ’s trust, Filip responded formally.
Filip was drunk the previous night. That was the only reason he would speak dismissively about the Paradise Resort project. In truth, Yates Construction was in a dire situation, surrounded by enemies.
If Filip had been thinking clearly, he would have realized just how desperately Yates Construction needed this project.

Jonathan nodded. “From today on, you will serve as the project manager on the Paradise Resort development, Mr. Yates. This project must be completed flawlessly, with no room for error,”
Then he added, “I expect you to be stationed on–site at the constriction headquarters from now on, working directly with the front–line workers, hands–on, overseeing every detail.”
Upon hearing that, Filip glanced at Jonathan.
The project had established multiple teams. At Yates Construction, beneath the project manager was the operations. manager, and below that, the heads of safety, quality, business, and production.
A project manager rarely had to be on–site, especially for a project like Paradise Resort, located on the most remote outskirts of Roncrity. The distance alone made it clear–Filip was banished to the project site.
Yet, this project was crucial for Yates Construction. Whatever conditions Jonathan laid out, Filip had no choice but to accept After everything that had transpired last night, his heart felt utterly defeated.
With Lilian’s persistent clinging and Cynthia’s cold indifference, all Filip desired was to be left alone for a while. Hence, without hesitation, he agreed.
As Filip stepped out of BJ Building, Lilian was already waiting at the entrance. Many of the senior figures at Yates Construction had worked for Matthew for years and had watched Filip and Cynthia grow up.
These senior executives knew about Filip’s affair with Lilian–his mistress, who he did not even bother to hide, flaunting her presence at the company.
Lilian had long carried herself as though she were Mrs. Yates. However, those in the know had little respect for her. Yates Construction’s employees sighed as they greeted Filip, then took their leave.
When Lilian saw Filip, she ran over. She was unusually subdued dressed in a simple white linen dress, a matching canvas bag slung over her shoulder. Her face, devoid of makeup, appeared haggard.
Lilian’s eyes were slightly red, making her seem small and helpless as if the slightest breeze could knock her down.
Approaching Filip cautiously, Lilian gently reached out to tug at his sleeve. “Filip, it’s time for my first–trimester screening. Will you come with me to the hospital?”
Lilian already knew the truth behind Filip’s drastic change in temperament. He must have discovered the alterations she made to Cynthia’s diary, the very thing that had driven them apart.
Filip probably hated Lilian now, seething with anger.
However, Lilian could not explain, nor did she intend to. Three years had passed since it happened. Even if what transpired between Cynthia and Filip had been a misunderstanding, there was no turning back now.
Besides, Lilian was carrying Filip’s child–her last bargaining chip. Filip glanced at Lilian’s–slightly bulging belly, but the joy of having a child had long since vanished. It was replaced by a trace of disgust.
Filip pulled his sleeve free from Lilian’s grasp, his face cold as ice. Suddenly, he said, “Lilian, get rid of the baby,”
Lilian froze to the spot, the words crashing over her like a bolt of lightning. She could not comprehend as if she had heard Filip wrong. After a long while, she asked in disbelief, “Filip, what did you say?”
Filip had been agonizing over this for two days, night and day, each moment tearing at him. However, now that he had said it aloud, the decision felt resolute.
