Rich people were keen on being godparents. Cynthia had never liked it. But she felt lucky to be Ruby’s goddaughter.
Being her idol’s goddaughter was like a dream come true. Sam was a man with a commanding appearance. Everyone respected and feared him. But Cynthia found him very approachable, especially when he defended her earlier today.
She was almost moved to tears, Justin always saw her as a cash cow. Nothing was more important than his pride.
It was their first meeting. Yet Sam stood up for her when she was being slandered. Cynthia was deeply moved by what he did.

Cynthia received a call from Selena the next day at noon. Her voice was anxious.
“Cynthia, I know I shouldn’t have called you, but your dad had a heart attack. He needs a surgery right away. Dr. Thompson said only Logan Zane, the director of Holyoke Hospital, was capable of performing the surgery. But we don’t know anyone
in Betrico.”
Cynthia’s countenance fell. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of this. I’ll be right there.”
The Jones family was one of the most powerful families in Roncrity, but they didn’t have any connections in Betrico. Cynthia called Jonathan right away.
Ten minutes later, Selena was told that Logan would come to Roncrity in the afternoon and perform surgery on Justin.

Cynthia arrived at the hospital quickly. At the sight of her, Selera finally relaxed a bit.
She couldn’t help but cry, Jonathan came along with Cynthia.
He told Selena that Logan had a 100% success rate. Even though Cynthia and Justin were not close, Justin was still her father. Cynthia wouldn’t just sit on her hands.
Logan arrived at 1 p.m. After greeting Jonathan politely, he began to talk with Dr. Thompson.
The operating room was ready. Justin was also ready for surgery. The surgery lasted for two hours.
It was a success. Selena finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She turned to Cynthia, tears welling up in her eyes. “Thank you, Cynthia.”
“Never mind,” Cynthia replied politely.
Selena noticed Cynthia’s worried look when Justin was wheeled into the operation room. Even though Cynthia cut off contact with them, she was still a kind person. After all, they raised her for 20 years.
“Sorry, Cynthia. I’ve kept hurting you in the past three years. I’m truly sorry. I didn’t know Shirley would do such crazy things, Selena said.
She deeply regretted what she had done. She was so eaten up with guilt.

“Shirley was the one who drigged me. It had nothing to do with you. I won’t blame you for that,” Cynthia said calmly.
Selena felt very happy. But Cynthia’s indifferent tone and impassive expression made her feel sad.

Cynthia no longer hated or blamed her. As the saying goes, time heals all wounds, but scars remain.
She didn’t want to escalate their conflict or patch things up. “That’s it,” she thought.
