But Jonathan didn’t see this. The view of the ocean on Jonathan’s screen suddenly went out.
The last thing Jonathan saw was Cynthia leaning over the railing shouting his name with a hoarse voice, each word filled with endless despair and pain
Nina was shocked. She didn’t expect Cynthia to jump. She quickly ran to the deck and leaned over to look down, but saw nothing except darkness.
Her heart felt like it might leap out of her chest. ‘Was Cynthia really gone just like that?‘ She abruptly looked up at the hologram.
There was no reaction from Jonathan. Whitney kept urging Jonathan to make a choice.
Jonathan, stop testing my patience. Who are you going to trade that card for?” asked Whitney.
Jonathan didn’t hesitate any longer. He answered decisively, “Trade for Cynthia!”
After hearing this, Nina froze, her body ice–cold. It felt like she was submerged in a deep ocean, the icy water cutting through her skin like sharp knives.
She never thought Jonathan would really choose Cynthia in the end. Well, she did think of it; she just didn’t want to admit it Nina thought, ‘In the end, Mr. Bennett truly didn’t care about my fate. All these years, his protection and care are just an illusion, not even worth as much as a temporary girlfriend he met in some small town!
Nina suddenly curled her lips into a self–mocking smile. Unfortunately, Cynthia had already jumped into the ocean. Jonathan’s video feed cut off, so he didn’t see it.
Nina mused, “Perhaps Whitney intentionally didn’t let him see it just to make her face reality!
Nina’s laughter grew louder and louder as she looked up at the sky, tears streaming down her face. “Mr. Bennett, Mr. Bennett… why did you lie to me?”
Nina thought, “Why deceive me for a while if you can’t deceive me forever? If you would eventually choose to leave me, I would rather in that year I was twelve, you never appeared in my life at all.
“From the moment I first saw you, you became the most important person in my life. But in the end, it was just a dream. A fleeting dream!‘
Nina didn’t care anymore; with determination, she leaped over the railing!
Meanwhile, on the holographic display, after Jonathan finished speaking, he paused for a couple of seconds, then said, “Fifteen percent of the Bennett Group’s shares, all the family shares 1 hold, in exchange for Nina’s life.”
Whitney was somewhat shocked. She didn’t expect that he would go to such lengths for Nina
Family shares, after years of disputes and struggles. She valued them more than anything else. They were also his weapon and bargaining chip.
To give those shares to her would be like surrendering. In the future, he would find it difficult to compete with her again. Yet, he was willing to give it all up for Nina.
Whitney chuckled and said, “I could have agreed, but I forgot to tell you something. Just a few minutes ago, both of them jumped into the sea.”
The hologram lit up again. However, all that could be seen in the darkness was a lonely yacht drifting on the sea, like a ghost

Jonathan’s body stiffened instantly, and his blood ran cold. “Whitney!! You killed them!”
Whitney seemed completely indifferent, as if two lives meant nothing to her.
A helicopter suddenly appeared on the screen. Whitney said, ‘Relax, the rescue team is nearby. With your sincerity, I can’t just leave you with nothing”
Jonathan’s gaze stayed fixed on the helicopter. The searchlight swept across the ocean, but on that vast sea, there was no sign of the two people.
No one knew how much time had passed. Maybe it was just a minute, or perhaps an hour. The helicopter crew began reporting. “We’ve spotted someone, preparing to land!”
Jonathan’s fingers clenched tightly. His nerves were about to snap. He kept a close eye on the image in the hologram.
A few minutes later, a slender figure was finally secured by the rescue line. The helicopter slowly ascended, and the person’s face appeared on the screen. It was Nina
Nina was weak and exhausted, but clearly still alive. Her face was filled with despair as she continued to cry.
Jonathan’s heart felt even tighter, like a knife lodged in his chest. It didn’t bleed, nor could it be removed, causing an unbearable pain.
“Cynthia Cynthia… don’t die… please… Jonathan mumbled something to himself. Even he didn’t know what he was saying. Meanwhile, a helicopter flew in from a distance, landing right on the rooftop.
The helicopter doors opened, and Susanna, with Claude’s help, stepped out. Her eyes were full of worry, and she looked a bit tired, but she still managed to walk over to Jonathan. Jon, don’t worry. I’m here.”
Jonathan seemed unaware of Susanna’s words. His eyes were vacant and fixed on the screen, unconsciously muttering Cynthia’s name.
The next moment, he went into a frenzy, turning around and racing to the helicopter they just arrived in.
The powerful wind from the helicopter’s propellers made the palm trees around rustle. The helicopter quickly took off, heading straight over the ocean, and soon disappeared into the darkness.
No one
had time to react. Claude’s expression was serious. “We were still too late…”
Susanna had already figured out what was going on. Whitney must have thought of some nasty way to torment him. Hearing him repeatedly whisper Cynthia’s name, it seemed like the girl was in trouble.
Susanna stepped forward and slapped Whitney. Her voice was ice–cold and commanding. “You really treat lives like they’re nothing.
Whitney didn’t dodge. She laughed with a hysterical, almost crazy tone.
Whitney shouted, “Mom! When haven’t I been treated like dirt nyself? I’m not even worth as much! This world owes me! The way I was tortured back then! All the pain I went through, I’m going to make him feel it all!”
Susanna felt deep sympathy when she thought about her daughter’s past. But remembering all the torment Jonathan had endured over the years, her heart ached too.
Susanna said, “Get a grip, Jon isn’t those people, they’re all dead Jon is your own.”
Whitney shouted, “Mom!”

Whitney seemed to know what Susanna was about to say. She screamed to stop her. “He’s not!”
Whitney stumbled backward, her eyes showing fear. “No, he’s not, I hate him, he’s a monster! I want him dead! I want him in hell! I want all of them in hell!”
Whitney seemed to have thought of something, becoming frantic. She then staggered off the rooftop.
Susanna turned to Claude and instructed, “Quick, go find Jon, make sure nothing happens to him, hurry!”
After everyone left the rooftop, the place became strangely quie for a moment.
However, behind a rooftop trellis, there was a figure curled up. His eyes were wide with fear, and his body was shaking uncontrollably.
Preston slowly lifted his eyes and saw a full moon. But tonight, seemed the moon had teeth, endlessly gnawing, biting, and devouring the tranquility of his twenty–one years…
