Chapter 5
Elijah’s heart ached for Yvonne. He let out a small sigh after that.
“Wait for me outside. I’ll drive you home later.”
Only then did Yvonne sashay out of the ward reluctantly.
“Sign the agreement,” I stated coldly.
Suddenly, Elijah moved to sit next to my bed. He clutched my hand while saying, Honey, please forgive me. You should pretend that none of this happened.
“Don’t we still have a baby together? Let’s just live together peacefully and raise our baby, okay?”
I glanced at Yvonne, who kept peeking into the ward. My lips were pressed into a thin line.
“What about her? Can you cut off all ties with her?”
Reluctance and hesitation filled Elijah’s eyes at that moment. He gritted his teeth, finally making up his mind.
“I’ve already thought it through. You’ll be living in the south, so I’ll arrange for Yvonne to stay in the north. Since you two will live far away from each other, you won’t affect each other at all! Isn’t this great?”
I got up immediately and delivered a heavy slap across Elijah’s face.
“You want us to live far away from each other? What wishful thinking! Elijah Montgomery, I’m getting divorced no matter what!”
After that, I pressed the call button that was lodged above my bed.
A nurse soon came into the ward. After hearing my request, she ordered Elijah to leave with a cold expression.
“Sir, please leave the ward right now. Please don’t disturb the patient while she’s on
Chapter 5
The next day, I was discharged from the hospital. I packed up my luggage immediately before rushing toward the airport with my baby in tow.
That afternoon, I returned to my grandmother’s house.
When Grandma saw her beloved great–grandson, she grinned from ear to ear.
“Oh, my darling/great–grandson! I finally get to see you, my dear!”

My grandmother was a university professor who had already retired from her job. She was one of the rare intelligent and educated people of her generation.
That night, she didn’t ask me what happened. All she did was hug me to sleep.
I spent a month in my hometown. It left me feeling a lot better and more relaxed.
But suddenly, I received a phone call from Elijah.
“Honey, it’s been a month. Are you still throwing that tantrum of yours? I’ve bought Yvonne a house in the north. She promised me that she’d stay in the north permanently and that she would never appear before you as long as you agreed to her
being in our relationship.
“Yvonne has already gone so far as to compromise so much with you, Jeanette! What more do you want from her?”
Elijah might sound like he had compromised with me, but I could easily tell how arrogant he sounded based on his tone. He genuinely thought that it was an honor for me to marry him in the first place.
I replied icily, “What more do I want, you ask? I told you before that I just want to get a divorce with you.”
“You freaking cunt-” Elijah revealed his true colors once again.
I merely hung up on him, my expression cold as ever.
Still, I didn’t expect to see him appearing outside my grandmother’s house three days later. He lost a lot of weight, not to mention he didn’t look as healthy as before.
It seemed that Yvonne didn’t take good care of him at all.
Grandma had suffered from heart attacks in the past due to her age. I didn’t want Elijah’s presence to serve as a trigger for her.
Hence, I told Elijah to meet me in the café near Grandma’s house.
This time, Elijah was a lot more amicable to me. There was a pleading undertone in his voice as he spoke.
“Honey, I received a summons from the court yesterday. I know you’re still mad at

me, but I don’t want to be separated from you. Let’s just live our lives together peacefully, okay?”
I narrowed my eyes while gazing at him coldly.

“To tell you the truth, there were times when I yearned for the same thing as well. I thought that I’d suck it up and spend the rest of my life with you for the sake of our baby and our family…”
“Does that mean you’re planning to forgive me?” Elijah stared at me emotionally.
I shook my head in response, my rejection blunt and heartless.
“I’ve already thought things through. Living alone is a lot better than spending the rest of my life with you. Elijah, I will get divorced one way or another.“.
My main priority was to end this toxic relationship once and for all.
Elijah let out another sigh. He said helplessly, “I know, I know. You’re still mad at me. I can only get you to go home with me once I’ve appeased you.”
Then, he produced a jewelry box from his bag. “You didn’t like the necklace I got you for your birthday, right? Well, I got you something that’s heavier in gold.”
I glanced at the gift, noticing a gold bangle nestling in the box. It looked a little
- familiar.
