Chapter 65
Cherise was just pulling away from Havenwood Estates when her WhatsApp buzzed with a call from Phoebe. She tapped the answer button. “Hey, Phoebe.”
Phoebe’s voice was tense on the line. “Hi, Cherise, things got hectic earlier and Morris left his phone behind. I’ve tried calling Steven, but he’s not answering, and I can’t leave.”
“Are you free? Could you drop it off for him? I’m worried he might need it for something important,” Phoebe asked.
Cherise checked the time–just after 5 PM. She was close to the Chivers residence and had no urgent plans. “No problem, Phoebe. I’ll get it to him. I’ll be at the Chivers residence in about ten minutes,” she assured.
Phoebe exhaled in relief. “You’re a lifesaver, Cherise. I’ll be waiting to pass it off!”
Ten minutes later, Cherise pulled up to the Chivers residence at the foot of Azure Peak, where Enya was already waiting at the entrance. Cherise stepped out of her car and gave Enya a nod.
Enya greeted her with a bright smile. “Ms. Leach, Mrs. Chivers has turned in for the night and asked me to give Mr. Chivers phone to you at the gate, so you don’t have to drive up.”
“And here,” Enya said, handing Cherise two boxes. “These are some pastries from the Chivers family’s kitchen. They’re quite delicious. Mrs. Chivers thought you might enjoy them.”
“The smaller one is for Mr. Chivers; he tends to forget to eat when he’s busy. Could you do us a favor and take this to him. Ms. Leach?” Enya asked.
Cherise took the boxes, catching a hint of coconut that lifted her spirits. “Thanks, Enya. Please tell Phoebe I appreciate her thoughtfulness, and I’ll make sure Morris gets his phone.”
Looking at Cherise’s sweet demeanor, Enya couldn’t help but think about her own sons finding a wife one day. She said warmly, “Drive safe, Ms. Leach. Watching Cherise drive away, she waved gently before pulling out her phone. After a few rings, it connected.
“Hey, Mom, what’s up? I’m about to join a meeting, Leo answered hurriedly.
“You boys are always busy, but I don’t see any of you bringing home a wife,” Enya chided..
Leo replied, “Come on, Mom. We’re swamped. I’ve got to run. Got a meeting to prep for
“Hold on. You can’t hang up yet. I have something important to tell you.” Enya stopped Leo, quickly filling him in on Cherise’s plan to meet Morris, making sure he was in the loop.
Once she was done, Enya headed back into the Chivers residence reassured.
Seeing Enya return, Phoebe rushed to ask, “Well! Did Cherise take the items? Did she say anything? Did your speak with Leot We can’t afford any mistakes,”
Enya laughed at Phoebe’s anxious expression. “Everything’s set.Although the phone is Mr. Chivers‘ spare, it’s usually kept at the residence, but it’s still a phone, so it’s not exactly deception.
