Chapter 212
The person who stepped out of the black Panamera was none offer than Cherise.
As she got out of the car, she glanced around. Never having been here before, she found the surroundings quite pleasant.
Gourmet Bistro was the place she intended to visit today. She lifted her foot, ready to enter.
She hadn’t taken many steps when a lively old man in an off–white suit came out. “Cherise, you’re here. I saw you from upstairs and came down to greet you.”
This elderly gentleman was Rayburn. A couple of days ago, before heading from Hamolica to Betrico, he had already arranged to meet Cherise.
Seeing the man in front of her, Cherise smiled slightly, “Rayburn, it’s been a while.”
“Cherise, it’s been a while. You look even more beautiful,” Rayburn smiled at the young lady who looked just like he remembered.
Cherise chuckled at Rayburn’s comment.
After a moment, they arrived at the private room Rayburn had booked in advance.
Upon entering, Cherise saw a chessboard neatly arranged on the coffee table.
“Cherise, how about a game?” Rayburn pointed at the chessboard as he invited Cherise.
Cherise nodded. “This time, I won’t hold back.”
“Let’s begin then,” Rayburn laughed joyfully.
And so, with their moves countering each other, the game of wits began.
Although they had only met once, they seemed like old friends with years of shared understanding from afar.
“Check. Rayburn, sorry, but I won again,” Cherise placed a piece on the board and said lightly half an hour later.
Rayburn shook his head and gave Cherise a thumbs up. “You’re the most remarkable young person I’ve ever encountered.”
Cherise accepted the compliment calmly. “Well, thank you, Rayburn, for your kind words.”
Rayburn was beaming with joy, finding himself more and more fond of the young lady before him, who carried herself with a poised and confident demeanor.
She had a straightforwardness that was rarely seen in young people today, giving off a very comfortable vibe.
As they finished their game of chess, the waiter knocked on the door and brought the dishes in
Seeing the waiter serve the food, Rayburn said to Cherise, “Cherise, let’s eat first and then we’ll talk.”
Cherise’s eyes sparkled at the sight of the table laden with food and her stomach rumbled. “Fantastic. I’m going to dig in. Rayburn, you should take a seat too.”
The two sat across from each other, almost like equals, despite the age difference.
Rayburn looked at the dishes and said, “Cherise, I wasn’t sure what you liked, and it’s been years since I’ve been in Betrico. The place I fondly remember for its vegetarian dishes is Gourmet Bistro.

“Although it’s called vegetarian food, it doesn’t taste like typical vegetarian dishes. I find it quite good, so I chose this place. Come on. Don’t be shy. Give it a try.”
Cherise had no intention of being polite when faced with delicious food. She picked up a piece of blueberry yam and popped it into her mouth, nodding. “That’s delicious. Rayburn, you should try some too.”
Seeing Cherise enjoy the food, Rayburn felt at ease and began to eat as well.
After the meal, the two of them sat at the dining table.
Rayburn took a sip of coffee and couldn’t resist speaking slowly, Cherise, if I may ask, do you have a grandmother or a similar elder in your family?” He had noticed some habits during dinner that reminded him of someone from his past.
With that, he waved his hand apologetically. “I didn’t mean anything by it. It’s just that you’re so similar to someone I remember. I couldn’t help but ask.”

Cherise felt very full and satisfied after the meal. Just like Rayburn, she took a sip of coffee to help with digestion and pursed her lips. “In my memory, there’s no such person as a grandma.”
Rayburn seemed a bit disappointed when he heard this “I see.”
After a moment, Cherise added, “But I did have a grandmother. She raised me, but sadly, she passed away six months ago.”
As she spoke, a hint of longing appeared on her face.
“I’m really sorry to hear that, Cherise,” Rayburn said with regret
Cherise shrugged, “It’s alright. What’s past is past. We need to look forward.”
Rayburn nodded in agreement.
The meal was full of satisfaction, laughter, longing, and a touch of sadness.
