Chapter 31: Cold War 

Anya heard Selene’s voice at the door and became glad she had not forgotten her place. 

“It is best you go take care of her, so she doesn’t break down the cabin door,” she said to Daniel. 

“We said we would talk after the gala. We should talk,” Daniel said. He was uncomfortable with the fact that she did not mind him going to Selene. 

“It’s fine. We can talk later. If it is about the divorce, I don’t think we should do it without a lawyer present. Anya said. 

Daniel was severely frustrated, but Selene was still knocking. 

“Her knuckles will hurt if she keeps at it,” Anya reminded him. Daniel swallowed what he was going to say and got up. He walked to the door and opened it. 

“Selene. Why are you knocking nonstop?” He asked with a frown. He could not understand why she didn’t just go away when he didn’t answer. 

“Daniel, I just came and was wondering if you were inside,” Selene said. 

“This is Anya’s room,” he started to say, but Anya was getting annoyed hearing them talk, so she got up and approached. 

“Do this outside,” Anya said, asking Daniel to step outside. 

“Anya,” Selene greeted.

“Next time you need him and you think he is here, send a staff. Don’t knock down my door just because you are getting no answer. Someone would be trying to catch your husband cheating,” Anya said to Selene. 

Selene seemed to go pale. 

“I know you don’t like me, but there is no need to say such a thing. You could damage my image if a person hears,” Selene responded. 

“Is that so? I didn’t know people who fight for married men were worried about their image,” Anya said. She was just pissed. She had not forgotten Selene framing her in the hospital. 

“Anya, that is too far,” Daniel reprimanded, and Anya paused. It hurt her when he took other people’s side over hers, and it hurt even more when it was Selene’s side he took. 

“Please step outside, then. My patience should not be tested this night. After your girlfriend threw food on herself to frame me, I am afraid of getting framed. So, keep her away from me till our divorce,” Anya said, pushing Daniel out and shutting the door. 

“Daniel I didn’t frame her,” Selene said. Daniel could not help thinking back to the hospital. He knew Anya a bit better now and felt she would not throw food on Selene. Was it some kind of misunderstanding 

“It’s fine. I know you didn’t,” Daniel answered. When he looked at Selene’s face, he just could not believe she could frame Anya. 

For some reason, when Anya attacked Selene, he felt better. It was better than ignoring Selene’s presence. Daniel felt he was crazy for thinking this. But it bothered him when Anya did not care about his relationship with Selene. 

“Why are you here instead of resting?” Daniel asked Selene. 

“I came over to ask if you would have breakfast with me tomorrow,” Selene asked. 

Daniel found it odd that she would knock without decorum because she wanted to invite him for breakfast. 

“The family has breakfast together. You can just join us tomorrow,” Daniel said to her. 

“Really? Alright,” 

The next morning, Anya did not join the family for breakfast. She had her food sent to her 

room. 

A staff had been sent to inform her, but she just had them bring her food to her. 

She may have ten her place when she first came to the cruise, and with the threat of 

being framed looking over her, she moved around without care. But now that Selene is here, she recalled that she did not belong in that family. 

She received a call from her mother. 

“Baby, how is your trip going?” Stella asked. 

“Nothing much. It is just a cruise I had no choice but to join. Now everything I needed to do has been done; I am staying out of the way,” Anya answered. 

“Since you are on a cruise, you should at least try having fun,” Stella suggested. She felt bad for her daughter.

“No, it is best if I stay out of the way. Daniel’s girlfriend is here,” Anya said.

“It doesn’t matter. You are the legal wife. How can you hide just because his girlfriend is around?” Stella asked. 

“His girlfriend is odd. Last time I met her, she poured food on herself and framed me for it. If she does anything, I will not be able to defend myself. His family doesn’t like me, after all,” Anya explained. 

“Still…” 

“Mom, we are in the middle of nowhere. What if they leave me behind in anger?” 

Anya asked. 

“At least go out and visit the place when the cruise docks. When I get better, we will go on our own cruise,” Stella said. 

The Shaw family breakfast room was silent when Daniel walked in the next day with Selene. 

Selene greeted the family before taking her seat next to Daniel. The family saw Daniel say nothing and raise a brow. They wondered what would happen when Anya arrived from 

breakfast. 

But they were shocked when a staff member told them Anya would be taking her breakfast in her room; they could not help glancing at Daniel 

“She at least knows her place,” Miley commented, and Amanda sent hera dirty look. 

The rest of the trip, Anya never left her room. She had all she needed in there, and food was. brought to her. She used this time to work and cover a lot of her projects. 

Her mother was going to be discharged from the hospital soon. She needed to get a bigger apartment. Anya was even considering moving to a different city. 

On the last day of the trip, Anya stayed away when the Shaw family held a party. She did not bother showing up, and when Daniel was seen with another woman that looked like his wife, rumors of their divorce spread even further. 

But Anya was unaware and did not care. After first, sh had been worried that Daniel would come find her if she stayed away this much, but it seemed Selene had kept him busy. 

Daniel was in fact fuming inside. Anya not showing up made him look bad and made people speculate on he and Selene’s relationship. 

He has wanted to talk to Anya about showing up but was angry because of her attitude. He wanted to see how long she could hide in her room. 

But she hid for the entire trip, not taking a step out till the last day when she was to leave. 

Out of spite, Daniel took the helicopter and left her there. When Anya stepped out to the deck, she was told that Daniel had left. 

Anya could only light at herself as she asked the crew if they had a boat to take her to shore. 

The crew was uncomfortable with the drama and quickly arranged to have a boat take Anya to shore. When Anya got to Daniel’s home, he was nowhere to be found, but she did not care and went up stairs to rest.

Daniel regretted leaving her there the moment he did. He was not sure what had come over him. He was suddenly agitated and could not wait to drop Selene off. 

Selene, on the other hand, was secretly dissatisfied. Even though Daniel had stayed with her instead of Anya, his mind was lost somewhere. 

He always seemed to be in deep thoughts throughout the cruise, making her feel he was thinking of Anya. 

Chapter 31: Cold War 

The Shaw family did not help matters. She thought they liked her, but she started to feel she 

was wrong. 

Daniel’s sister and sister–in–law were at most polite but avoided her a lot of the time. She suddenly felt that it would have been better if Anya had shown up. 

There were times when she felt so uncomfortable, she wanted to cry, but Daniel did not notice. 

Daniel dropped her off, received a phone call, and left afterwards. Selene suspected that he was going to see Anya. 

She was in fact wrong. Daniel had been called home by his father.
