Chapter 29
I was speechless. Quinn wasn’t asking for my opinion–he was giving orders. I had no choice but to agree
Reluctantly, I stepped into the master bedroom. After showering. I realized I hadn’t brought any pajamas. After signing the divorce papers, I packed up all my personal belongings and moved out
Coming back today was unexpected, and I had nothing prepared. The bathroom only had Quinn’s towels, and I didn’t dare use his things without permission.
After hesitating. I cracked the bathroom door open and awkwardly called out, “I think you have some unworn pajamas in your closet. Can I borrow a set?”
Quinn didn’t reply, but I heard footsteps approaching.
A moment later, he knocked on the door and handed me a set of pajamas, his tone indifferent. “No new ones”
I took them and realized it was a blue–gray plaid set I’d seen him wear before.
Once I changed, I caught my reflection in the mirror and almost laughed. I looked ridiculous.
Quinn was almost 6’3“, while I barely hit 55“. I didn’t even need to wear the pants–the oversized top was long enough to cover me completely.
When I stepped out of the bathroom, Quinn’s dark eyes swept over me and lingered for a moment. Then he said, almost casually, I just realized how short you are.”
Was the stock market drop affecting him so much that he’d become chatty?
I frowned, feeling annoyed, and climbed into bed. Quinn’s pajamas carried a faint minty scent–soothing, almost calming. I closed my eyes and fell asleep quickly.
The next morning, Quinn woke me up. “Go downstairs and pick something to wear.
In the living room, several luxury–brand shopping bags were piled high. Finn stood nearby and greeted me with a polite smile. “Mrs. Madden, per Mr. Madden’s instructions, these are all the latest styles in your size.”
“Wait, isn’t the charity gala tomorrow night?” I was confused. Why prepare a day early?
Quinn raised an eyebrow, his tone indifferent. “So, you were planning to wear my pajamas out today?”
I looked down at the rolled–up pant legs and finally understood why Finn, usually so serious, kept smiling at me.
Blushing, I quickly grabbed a work–appropriate outfit and changed.
On the drive, I realized we weren’t heading toward the office. Where was Quinn taking me so early?
Just then, Finn took a call and quietly reported, “Mr. Madden, your aunt and uncle have arrived at the old mansion.”
“We’re visiting Grandpa?” I turned to Quinn, surprised. “Why didn’t you tell me earlier so I could prepare?”
The entire Madden family was gathering. It was obvious they had something planned. Frowning, I sensed a storm brewing-
Quinn narrowed his eyes and said lightly, “You’ve always played the role of Mrs. Madden so well, haven’t you?”
Even at a time like this, he had the energy to mock me. I rolled my eyes and silently wished him good luck.
At the old mansion, the butler greeted us warmly and led us in the living room. “Mr. Madden hasn’t woken up yet,” he said

with a smile. “The kitchen is preparing breakfast. Let me know if you’d like anything special”
“No need,” I replied with a polite smile.
The chefs at the old mansion were top–tier; their cooking was always exceptional.

As we spoke, a middle–aged woman dressed elegantly approached. She took my hand and looked me over carefully “Natalia. you’ve lost so much weight! I know a great doctor. I’ll have him check on you next time.”
She was Tina, Joseph’s wife and Quinn’s aunt–in–law.
Thank you for your concern, I said politely.
“How does a divorced woman still have the nerve to walk into this house?” Georgia, sitting on the sofa, sneered
Her sharp tongue was nothing new. After our last argument at a funeral, she probably hated me even more now.
I forced a smile and greeted her out of courtesy. “Looks like you believe the rumors online.”
“Rumors: You know the truth,” Georgia said with a pointed look at Quinn. Then, raising her voice, she added, “Some people will say anything to keep their position. They’re just trying to fool Alex.”
“Enough! Alex is coming. Joseph muttered, lowering his voice in irritation.
The elevator doors opened, and Alex appeared, leaning on a cane.
He cast a cold glance at everyone before saying to the butler, “Since we’re all here, serve breakfast
The kitchen brought out an extravagant spread. The scale of the meal was almost overwhelming.
Georgia, clearly prepared for this, ate absentmindedly before breaking the silence. “What’s the PR department even doing? There’s still no crisis plan. If the stock price drops again today, Madden Group could lose millions!”
I watched Alex closely, but he showed no reaction. He calmly ate his food, completely ignoring Georgia’s complaints.
Tina tried to smooth things over. “Didn’t Natalia just explain? It all a misunderstanding. The divorce rumors are baseless?
“Rumors?” Alex raised an eyebrow and looked meaningfully at Quinn.
Quinn, who had been silent, finally spoke in an unhurried tone. Within a week, Madden Group’s stock price will recover and surpass its previous high.”
His words weren’t just an explanation–they were a promise.
I was stunned. A week? Where did Quinn get that kind of confidence? But knowing him, he never made empty claims.
Alex simply replied, “We’ll see.”
I let out a small sigh of relief, thinking we’d passed this hurdle.
Then Joseph turned to me, his expression serious. I saw the video online. Skylar is your sister, isn’t she? How could things get so bad between the two of you?”
My heart sank, Joseph was no fool. He probably suspected the divorce was real but wasn’t reckless enough to tell Alex without evidence.
I couldn’t possibly tell him it was because I’d cut ties with the Hiton family over the divorce. I hesitated, unsure how to respond.

Before I could speak, Alex set down his fork and gave Quinn and me a long, deliberate look. “Since it’s rare for the family to gather, everyone should stay here for the day.”
With that, he instructed the butler to prepare rooms for everyone.
That evening, Quinn and I stayed in a guest room on the third floor.
Just as I turned off the lights and got ready to sleep. I noticed a shadow pass by the window.
Before I could react, Quinn suddenly rolled over and wrapped his arms around mel
