Chapter 22
The phone fell to the ground, I was instantly angry, pointing at the phone on the ground and frowning. “When the police come later, please compensate yourself for all the damages caused.
“Bitch, dare to threaten me? My mom died in your place; you will have to pay for it no matter who you ask to come!” the man cursed angrily.
Rose had been a well–behaved lady since she was a child, and although she was dissatisfied, she was still rational.
She politely explained, Tm the dean of this place, and we are deeply sorry about the death of Mrs. Pierce. If you have questions about Mrs. Pierce’s death, you can go for an autopsy.”
The man sniffed with vigor, his voice getting louder and louder. “What the hell do you mean? Chelsea is gone, and you still want to disembowel her, you bitch.
You look well–dressed, how come you are so vicious! I don’t think you are qualified to open a sanatorium; why don’t you go to open a brothel
Rose’s face turned red with embarrassment, and she pursed her lips tightly.
She wasn’t adept at handling such hooligans, but I wasn’t one to be easily intimidated.
“Don’t you know how to speak properly?” I coldly retorted, glancing sideways and prompting Rose to call the police.
Realizing the situation, she quickly pulled out her phone.
The man seemed to know that once the police arrived, they would surely be sent away. He shouted to his companions behind him, “Don’t let them call the police!
As soon as he finished speaking, they hurried forward, grabbing for Rose’s phone..
Staff from the sanatorium also rushed in, and both sides quickly engaged in a scuffle.
Amidst the chaos, I heard Benedict suddenly let out a loud cry.
Following the direction of the sound, my heart leaped to my throat. Amid the brawl, a man stumbled into Benedict’s crib, lost his balance, and fell backward, teetering on the edge of the crib.
“Benedict!” I screamed in terror, scrambling to stand up and lunging at the man with all my might.
“Ah!” the man cried out in pain.
With the sound of breaking glass, the man crashed through the floor–to–ceiling window, curling up amidst shards of glass as he wailed in agony
The unexpected scene made everyone stop in their tracks.
Without thinking further, I quickly checked on Benedict.
Fortunately, he was just scared. I held him in my arms and comforted him for a moment until he stopped crying.
The police and an ambulance arrived almost simultaneously.
That man was seriously injured, and Rose and I were taken to the police station.
After giving our statements the police informed us that the victim was willing to mediate but demanded a settlement of 300 thousand dollars in damages

That was completely outrageous.
I couldn’t swallow this indignity. Even if I had 300 thousand dollars, I wouldn’t give it to these rascals,
“In that case, we will have to go through legal proceedings. For now, contact someone to bail you out, the police explained. routinely.
Rose’s parents were abroad, and she had only recently returned, having few friends in Enschester
Her first thought was of Aiden, but after several attempts, he didn’t answer any of her calls.
It was already nearly five in the afternoon. If we couldn’t find someone to bail us out today, Rose and I would have to spend the night in the police station.
I ran through all the people I could ask for help in my mind.
My parents were on vacation in a neighboring city, my phone was broken, and I couldn’t check my contacts list.
The only person whose phone number I remembered was my ex–husband, Quinn.
I prepared myself mentally and called Quinn. Tm at the police station and there’s been a situation. Could you please send a lawyer to bail me out?”
The silence on the other end was deafening. I wasn’t even sure if Quinn was listening.
“Hello? If it’s inconvenient, forget it. I felt incredibly awkward and regretted calling him.
Just as I was about to hang up. Quinn said coldly, “Which police station?”
His voice made my nerves tense. I whispered. The police station in the southern part of the city.”
He hung up immediately after I finished speaking
Rose asked hopefully, “Did Quinn agree to help?”
I breathed a sigh of relief and smiled reassuringly. “Yes. He’ll send a lawyer; we just need to wait ealmly.”
Half an hour later, the police notified us, “The bail paperwork is done. The person picking you up is outside; you can leave
Rose and I quickly walked out of the main gate of the police station.
Seeing a Bentley parked by the roadside, my heart raced. Did Quinn come in person?
Dressed in a black coat, his tall figure stood next to the car door, his dark eyes sweeping across Rose and me briefly before he said in a deep voice, “Get in the car!
I hesitated for a moment, and Rose tactfully said, “Thank you for your help today, Mr. Madden, I still need to clean up the mess back at the sanatorium, so I’ll take my leave now. I’ll come by another day to thank you properly.”
Quinn responded with a simple “Hmm” without changing his expression, his gaze never leaving me.
I felt uneasy under hus stare, said goodbye to Rose, and got into the car as Quinn requested.
“Thank you” Once he was also in the car, I quietly said. “Thank you for your help. You can drop me off at a main road; Lean
Using me and then running away?” Quinn smirked. Clancing sideways, I saw his sullen face and wondered what angered

I was in the wrong today: Lcaused him trouble. If he didn’t want to help, he could have refused me from the start. Why get angry after agreeing to help?
Feeling irritated. I dared not confront him directly and somewhat defiantly asked, “Then what do you expect me to do?”
“Didn’t you suggest I hire a housekeeper?” His voice remained as cool and thin as ever. Tm considering your suggestion
now
I froze. I was too familiar with him.
Although he didn’t finish his sentence, I immediately understood what he meant.
“There’s no such clause in our divorce agreement. I refused without hesitation.
Quinn had endless ways of tormenting me. During the day, he wanted me to work for Madden Group, and after work, he wanted me to serve him hand and foot as a housekeeper.
He was dreaming.
He narrowed his dark eyes, curved his thin lips, and looked at me with a threatening glint. “Do you not want Rose’s sanatorium to continue operating?”
My heart trembled. Although Rose and I were released on bail today, solving the subsequent issues would be very troublesome.
Quinn had the capability to handle it. As long as he continued to help, with his means, dealing with those people would be
Rose helped take care of Benedict; I owed her a favor.
After some consideration, 1 gritted my teeth and said, “Until you find a suitable housekeeper, I can be responsible for your dinner. But only dinner, and I’ll leave right after preparing it each day.”
The car stopped.
Unbeknownst to n me, we had already arrived at the entrance of Quinn’s villa
Dusk was approaching, painting the sky beautifully.
“Get out. Buy tonight’s ingredients and come back,” Quinn said, leaving me stranded and driving away.
Half an hour later, laden with bags of groceries, I hadn’t even stepped into the living room when I heard a woman’s crisp laughter
