Chapter 9 The End
Ever since Kylie lost her mind and cursed me that day, I had been on edge.
And as expected, disaster struck. The number and types of zombles spiraled out of control.
Before, most of the infected were humans or low aggression werebeasts. Now, werelions, wereleopards, werewolves, and weretigers, all known for their strength and ferocity, had turned into zombies. Their speed and attack power had multiplied.
For some reason, they were all heading toward the castle.
And the one leading them here was Kylie. She had smeared herself with zombie blood, masking her scent. With a speaker in one hand, she lured the horde toward us.
Gavin and I stood at the castle’s watchtower, watching the overwhelming wave of zombies approaching. Cold sweat trickled down my back.
We might not be able to hold the castle this time.
Gavin pulled me into his arms and said, “Sheila, being able to marry you in this lifetime has been my greatest blessing. Even if I turn into a zombie, I never want to forget you.”
Outside, Kylie’s voice blared through a loudspeaker, “Sheila! I dumped zombie flesh and blood into the drinking water the werebeasts used! That’s why they turned! And now, the zombies are here for you. Today is the day you die!
“If I can’t live a good life, then I’ll drag you to hell with me. As long as I kill you, I’ll get another chance to be reborn again. I won’t lose to you!”
Pathetic.
“Kylie, your real mother was a nurse, and she switched us at birth so you could live a wealthy life. For over 20 years, you lived my life while I suffered. Why do you keep acting like I owe you something?”
Kylie’s voice turned hysterical. “Because your existence will always remind me that I’m a fake! As long as you’re alive, I’ll never be the real daughter of the Carringtons! But you just won’t die. You’re even living better than me!
“Sheila, you’re my curse! No matter if it’s before or after the apocalypse, it’s either you or me!
I finally understood that a thief would never think stealing was wrong. The only wrong in their eyes was the person who caught them red–handed.
Outside the castle, Kylie’s deranged laughter echoed.
I lifted my hand, signaling the research team to begin.
With so many zombies, only one method could work, and that was an airborne distribution of the zombie virus cure via drones.
I had ordered this cure to be developed the moment the first zombie appeared. The key ingredient was none other than the venom of the wereserpents.
Fighting poison with poison.
In my previous life, I had discovered something unusual. When wereserpents were bitten, they turned much slower than any other werebeasts. Some of the stronger ones even managed to fight off the infection entirely.
That meant wereserpents carried natural antibodies against the zombie virus.
Half an hour after the drones began dispersing the cure, the horde started to quiet down.
At first, those who had been recently infected slowly regained their senses. Then, even the deeply infected ones fell into a deep sleep.
One month later, the zombies disappeared, and the world returned to normal.
It turned out that the virus had originated from a country that had recklessly dumped nuclear waste into the ocean, contaminating the water supply and triggering the outbreak.
As for Kylie, her fate was beyond miserable.
Werelions, wereleopards, werewolves, and
very werebeast clan wanted her dead.
When they finally caught her, they tortured her for three days before tearing her into pieces.
Luke, as her husband, was exiled by the weretigers and became a rat that dead.
What poetic justice.
everyone wanted
Meanwhile, Gavin and I became unimaginably wealthy from developing the zombie cure. Three years later, we had our first child.
Gavin and I swore that no matter what, our child would grow up happy and healthy.
