Chapter 8 Waiting
Kylle had barely set foot in the weretigers‘ refuge when Luke caught her.
“You treacherous whore!” he snarled, grabbing her by the arm. “I sent you to the castle to poison their water supply, and instead, you started fantasizing about being the lady of the castle?
“What, did you forget how desperate you were to marry me back then? You think our place isn’t good enough for you now? I always knew you were a backstabbing bitch!”
Kylie froze in shock. She had no idea how she had been exposed. “How do you know I betrayed you?”
Luke tossed a small recorder onto the ground. It was a recording of her conversation with Gavin played back in haunting detail.
Kylie panicked. She dropped to her knees, shaking her head frantically. “Luke, no! I never betrayed you! It was Sheila–Sheila set me up! I’ve always been on your side!”
Luke grabbed her by the jaw, his grip crushing. “Then, tell me this. I told you to poison their well the very first day you got into the castle. Why didn’t you do it? Why did you bring the poison back? Were you planning to switch sides and kill us?”
Kylie had no answer. She could only beg for mercy.
The whip lashed across her back again and again until her flesh was in tatters and bleeding.
Luke barked, “Take this traitorous bitch and throw her to the zombies!”
“No, no! Wait! I–I’m pregnant! I have your child!
Luke’s men hesitated. Weretigers valued their offspring, especially in a world like this.
“If you’re lying to me, I can think of a hundred ways to make you wish you were dead.”
Kylie scrambled closer, clinging to Luke’s boots pitifully. “I swear I’m not lying! My belly will grow bigger every day, you’ll see. I can’t fake that ”
Luke believed her. And just like that, Kylie survived.
That night, she used the satellite phone the weretigers had recently stolen and called me.
“Sheila, you conniving bitch! You and Gavin set me up! You must be so disappointed that I’m still alive!”
“Kylie, you killed Mom and Dad, betrayed your husband, seduced mine, and plotted to throw me to the zombies. Tell me. Who’s the more vicious one between us?”
There was no trace of guilt or remorse in Kylie’s voice as she argued, “They were obstacles

and so are you! Gavin was supposed to be my husband! That castle was supposed to be mine! You stole my
life!”
Oh, she was beyond saving.
“This life and the last, you made your choices. I stole your life? Kylie, you brought this upon yourself.”
Kylie was dumbstruck. “You… You were reborn, too? And yet, knowing what Luke is, you just sat back and watched me marry him. Sheila, you dare say you didn’t steal my life?”
I laughed and said, “We were both reborn, weren’t we? You knew Gavin was going to die in the zombie apocalypse, but did you warn me? No.
“The difference between us is that I worked for everything I have–my castle, my life of comfort, and my husband who loves me. All you ever did was try to take shortcuts. You were even willing to kill your parents just to survive.”
Every word I spoke cut deep, and Kylie finally snapped, “Sheila, I will never admit defeat! I will make you suffer! I will take everything from you!“‘
