Chapter 12
Today is starting so perfectly, I am stretched out in my bed hearing the noise going on just outside my bedroom and I know it is about to be a fun day.
“Open this fucking door.” I still hear the banging of my door, but I am lying still on the bed as I can’t help but keep the smile in place.
There was a promise last night, and somehow I knew that had been fulfilled.
She is their mother, why is the behaving like she can’t hear a thing?” Agitated, Joyce banged the door again and again, but I could pretend not to hear anything
I came back early this morning after being super drunk. I can’t remember what happened the night before, but I woke up on the bed in the secret house and when I walked to the living room he was lying there, adeep.
I didn’t bother to wake him up as I walked away. I don’t know what transpired or how I got so very drunk, so I did the first thing that came to my mind, to walk away
Coming back 1 had been sleeping so much that my phone had been binged plenty of times, finally shoving the sleep away I picked up the phone and the news I was seeing was enough to wake me up, enough to clear the sleep from my eyes.
“What do you mean, he is under investigation, and how does that have anything to do with you?” I could hear my mother yelling at Joyce as they were still standing at the door to my room.
Enough of keeping them there. I stood from the bed and walked to the door, opening it gently
“I told you she was inside. I told you I heard when she sneaked inside the house this morning.” Joyce yelled as she pointed at me.
I was returning to the room when my mother’s hand clamped on my shoulder, making me stop.
“Where the hell were you last night?” She queried.
I’m still hungover from the night before, I can feel the banginig in my head and feel like dropping off to the floor but of course, I can’t push her.
“Let’s just s
say I stepped out for a moment,” I replied to her as a yawn escaped my mouth
The both of them suddenly covered their noses as they took a step back
“Don’t tell me you have been drinking Birdie, when did you turn into a drunk” Mother asked as she looked at me with disgust while her nose was sull covered with her hand.
Meanwhile, Joyce, on the other hand, has the same expression on her face
“When someone took my husband from me, I wasn’t even allowed to mourn for the marriage that had failed, why don’t I start doing that now, I said with a shrug about entering inside when Joyce reached out and held my shoulder.
“What have you done? She queried, the questions in her eyes as well as the anger in them were so very visible.
This must be due to the news that is spreading like wildfire, but of course, I can always pretend to have no idea of what was happening
Looking at the hand she was gripping me with, I let her leave it there as I looked to the floor and back to her.
Thave no idea what you are speaking of, what do you mean, what have I done! As you can see, I am hungover and sleeping inside.” I pointed inside the room if she had forgotten the moment that just happened, and I was inside there.
“Whatever you are doing undo it right now, my life is about to be ruined” She exclined sharply, I could feel her breath coming faster.
Looking at our mother, who was closely watching us without uttering a word, I shrugged again.
“I have no idea what you are speaking about,” I answered her again, feigning ignorance of the whole thing.
Her hand fell from my shoulder as she itched her hand in frustration.
“I can swear that she knows exactly what I am talking about, I get that, I get you want to get back to me for what I did. way” She yelled as she koked around with frustration written all over her face.
“What do you mean, punished by what you did, and why the hell are you in the news, young lady?”
Father walked into the space as we both were still standing there, Joyce was startled as she looked at him.
- d. but you e
can’t punish me
Chapter 12
My eyes moved to him, he had his work jacket slung to his shoulder, and he also looked half–pissed.
“This is her fault.” Quickly she pointed at me as she took a step back, “She knows exactly why I am in the news today, this has her and him written all over.” She yelled more, sniffing hard.
The whole passageway is suddenly quiet, it seems they all are waiting for me to say a word, to either deny it again or accept that I am the reason my sister is on the news alongside my ex–husband Eric.
A fact that is true, but then I can always behave like I have no idea what was happening.
“You saw me, right? I am just waking up after getting drunk all night, how do you expect me to know of because I don’t….
wwhat h
happened? Or what you are accusing me
She shoved her phone straight into my face. I took the phone from her and adjusted it to my sight, right there in the news is my sister alongside my husband, making the headline.
“Oh my god….” I gasped, “What the hell is this? This is bad.” Holding my chest, I peered more into the screen as my eyes registered the headline.
Eric and Joyce have a paper company that is registered under their names, and they have been laundering money for a while, now they are to be under investigation.
“This is bad, is this true? How did you get yourself into this? How
“Will you stop pretending?” She yelled so loud, making me shut my mouth immediately from the numerous questions that I had wanted to ask
her.
“Is this fun for you? Do you think this only affects me? What about our patients? What about them!
I know you hate me right now, and I don’t give a fuck about it, but you can’t even consider the people you call parents before proceeding with something like this, how could you?“.
A tear fell from her eyes, followed by another. Before I could grasp the moment, Mother had walked to where she was standing, and she gathered
her into her arms.
“I have always told you that she will ruin our daughter, and when I mention that you can’t believe me, are you looking at it right now?”
From the sight in front of me, I looked at Father, and he was standing there, motionless.
After a long silence, that only Joyce sops filled the place, he finally spoke.
“I know you two have never been the best of friends, but I know something is going on, can one of you speak on what the hell is happening?” He demanded with full authority, as his voice was laced with the anger that came with it.
When I looked up she was looking at me, it was obvious that she had been hiding for a very long time, how she destroyed the one thing that I held. precious to my life she had taken, this was the moment she could say something to them.
I’m sure I’m not going to say anything, and if she would rather not say a word too, then that’s the end, I won’t have to bother myself about it.
“Just fix what you did.” She yelled, turning
around she walked away, and as usual, there was no single remorse in her eyes, not a single one.
