Chapter 10
This Tuesday evening meal that meant a lot to them was one of the things that I hated so much, yet every Tuesday I was invited, even when they knew that I was never coming anywhere the three of them were gathered.
Today was an exception, which was why I was seated in the midst of them, allowing them all to speak as much as they wanted because I didn’t care one bit about what was being discussed here.
They wanted to know what was happening in each other’s life like they don’t discuss that every day.
“How has it been since the divorce! Margot, my stepmother asked Eric who frigued but as he sniffed loudly,
“I mean it has not been as had as I expected it to be, she left ine” He said, cleaning off a tear that wasn’t running in his eyes.
Η
I took a sip of the drink in front ofine, feeling so much annoyance that I was trying to hold it together…
“She wasn’t for you, I have always told you that” She said to him in comfort.
Mr. Rodriguez, who happens to be my father and the one who made me share a connection with each one of them seated here, cleared his throat. and everywhere was suddenly quiet.
He was a man whose very presence meant something more scary, he was a man who meant any word that came out of his mouth, which was why he didn’t have to speak, but we were all listening, like we were waiting for a command from him.
“What is happening in your life, Matteo!” He finally said something after the silence on the table became loud. “You hated Tuesdays, and yet here you are right now, which means there is something that brought you here.”
When I said I wasn’t concerned about the family or their stupid tradition when I left 3 years ago, I meant every word and have been keeping it.
“Yes you are right, I have something that I wanted to disclose to you all, which is why I came here today
My eyes were roaming around as I looked at their faces upon receiving what I had just said,
Of course, Eric, and his mother looked so uncomfortable that I didn’t have to bat an eye to see that, they could not hide their disdain for me and
that was fine
If it’s something that has to do with work, you know that.
“We don’t discuss work here, and I am perfectly fine, as you can see My work is doing fine too.” I interrupted Margot before she said another word
Now they are all looking at me with the interest that flashes in their eyes, each asking what could be so impressive that will have me attend this gathering this evening
I cleared my throat before settling my hand on the table as I looked at Mr. Rodriguez
“I said
aid to hi
“I am getting married.” I said to him.
He is a little taken aback, he doesn’t show it, but a circle crosses his eyes, and it is evident what just ran through his mind.
“What? What do you mean, you are i
are getting married, you
cant
possibly….
“Considering I have been there before, you have my blessings already” Eric spoke like 1 was waiting for his blessings or whatever.
am not here for that, rather, I am here to show you all who I am getting married to.”
Now their eyes flashed in the speculation of who this person was, they all were focused on me as I scrambled my chair off and sind.
I walked to the door and opened it, and there she was, her hands holding the bag so tightly that her lips curled into a deep smile.
“HiShe muttered.
“Hi” I tried to keep the words in my head but the way she looked so beautiful I couldn’t help but look at her face. I was trying to concentrate on what was lying in front of us
“Are you ready?” I asked, holding out my hand.
She took a massive breath of air before her hand gently touched mine, trembling.
I squeezed her hand and held them in place before we started towards where everyone else was waiting
Immediately we stepped into the faces, they all stood, startled by what they were seeing right now

Chapter 10
“Tell me this is a joke,” Margot demanded immediately as she stood gaping at the both of us,
“Contrary to what you think, it is not. This is the woman I intend to marry” My eyes turned to Birdie, ever so beautiful and gracious as she blushed to my face.
It sent a warm feeling to my chest, a feeling that I am pushing so far into where it belongs.
you are not serious
“Tell me this is another joke of yours. Matteo, you are not
His eyes widened in shock that he was looking at the both of us. He looked as if he had seen a ghost walk right through where he was supposed to be
“As I said before, this is the woman 1 intend to marry.”
Squeezing her right to my side felt so natural, it felt so right as the both of us were now looking at them.
“You are crazy, he is your brother’s ex–wife, what the hell do you think you are doing?” Eric’s mother snapped, she looked like she was about to cut a head off, and that head happened to be mine or my bride.
“I know, I was not blind to see that or know that. But the most important thing right now is that I am getting married to her, it is important and not what happened in the past.” I let them know.
“You must be crazy,” Eric shouted. He pushed his chair off, walking to where we both were standing but suddenly stopped.
“Birdie, tell me this is a joke, you cannot be thinking of marrying him, tell me.
“Not that I need to tell you anything anyway, but yes.” She flashes her ring right in front of all of them. “We are indeed getting married.“.
I
Her giggles are sweet, gentle yet firm, and all I wanted to do was lean in and take all of that
“This is a sick joke, you can’t.
The only person that I needed to hear his voice kept mute. He is looking out, but his eyes are not focused here, he looks as if he has a lot on his mind.
“Father what do
“This thing is not going to work.” He suddenly said and stood up without sparing us another glance.
He walked away as we all were still standing-
“You heard your father right, this is not going to work” Eric’s mother said with so much disgust before she looked at Birdie, “If you think that I’m going to allow you back into my home! Then you must be joking” She spit before she walked away.
The three of us left here are focused on each other, the atmosphere is so high and tense, and
omehow all 1 could feel was the hand that was holding me, gripping me tight as she steadied herself.
