Chapter 207 Great–Grandchild
Sure enough, her suspicions were correct–Nathaniel Hart’s cooking skills were…
“Well, it’s really salty,” Sofia Schneider said.
Nathaniel’s brow furrowed, confused, and he tasted the congee from the same spoon Sofia had used. His face stiffened as well.
It was indeed far too salty.
“I swear, I didn’t add that much salt,” Nathaniel said, genuinely puzzled.
Sofia’s curiosity grew. If it wasn’t the salt, then it had to be something else. Her eyes landed on the crab in the congee.
“Where did you get this crab?” Sofia asked.

She picked up a piece of crab with a fork and tasted it. As soon as she did, she knew.
“This is salted crab,” Sofia said with a sigh.
Salted crab, which is usually eaten raw after being preserved, becomes overwhelmingly salty when cooked.
Sofia couldn’t believe Nathaniel had used this in the congee.
Nathaniel looked surprised for a moment, then grabbed two more crabs from the fridge. “What about these?”
Seeing the fresh crabs, Sofia instantly understood–Nathaniel had mixed them up.
Finally, she couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Leaning in closer to him, Sofia said with a playful grin, “You’re so cute.”
Her eyes sparkled with amusement. It was clear she was genuinely entertained by Nathaniel’s mix–up.

Nathaniel had put effort into figuring out the difference between the two kinds of crabs, yet he still managed to get it wrong.
If Sofia were to describe him, he was definitely a “kitchen disaster.”
Sofia stood on her tiptoes and gave Nathaniel a quick kiss on the lips, saying, “I think I like you even more like this.”
Nathaniel, though flattered by her words, couldn’t shake the disappointment of his kitchen failure.
Seeing the downcast look on his face, Sofia took his hand and said, “Let me fix it for you. I’ll help adjust the congee.”
Sofia then worked on toning down the overwhelming saltiness, balancing the flavors. After tasting her revised creation, she smiled with satisfaction.
To be fair, if Nathaniel hadn’t mixed up the crabs, his seasoning had actually been pretty spot on.
Soon, the two of them sat down at the dining table, enjoying their breakfast together.
Sofia, famished after the long night, devoured the congee, her stomach finally feeling full
and content.
After two large bowls, she leaned back, patting her belly with satisfaction.
Just as they finished breakfast, Nathaniel’s phone rang–it was a call from Old Mr. Hart.
“Nathaniel, you and Sofia didn’t come home last night?” Old Mr. Hart asked with concern.
“Grandpa, we stayed at Lakeside Manor,” Nathaniel replied.
Old Mr. Hart had been worried that something might have happened since they didn’t return home, but as soon as he heard they were at Lakeside Manor, all his concerns vanished.
He laughed warmly and asked, “Oh, Lakeside Manor, huh? Are you two planning to stay there for a while? If you need anything, I’ll have someone bring it over.”
Lakeside Manor had been prepared for Nathaniel as a wedding gift, and although he and Sofia had been married for quite some time, this was their first visit to the manor.

Old Mr. Hart had a good idea why they were staying there.

The thought that he might soon have a great–grandchild filled him with joy. He even wished they would just settle down at Lakeside Manor until Sofia was expecting, and then they could return home.
Nathaniel could hear the excitement in his grandfather’s voice and felt a bit helpless.
Just how much did the old man want a great–grandchild?
Though, to be honest, Nathaniel was curious too–what would his and Sofia’s child be like?
He wondered if, after last night, a little one might already be taking root in Sofia’s belly.
Noticing the shift in Nathaniel’s expression, Sofia looked at him questioningly. “What’s wrong?”
“Grandpa wants us to stay here for a while,” Nathaniel explained.
Sofia shook her head. “That won’t work. We need to go back.”
Lakeside Manor wasn’t fully equipped, and if something were to happen with Nathaniel’s health, it would be difficult to deal with here.
Nathaniel relayed Sofia’s words to Old Mr. Hart “Grandpa, we’ll head back soon.”
He heard Old Mr. Hart sigh on the other end, clearly disappointed.
