Chapter 202 Can You Help Me Save Her?
Nathaniel Hart walked over, wrapping his arm around Sofia Schneider’s waist and asking, “Did that scare you?”
Sofia shook her head. “I’m not that easily frightened.”
From the way Nathaniel spoke, it was clear he knew the old woman well too, which only made Sofia more curious.
Why had they left the old woman all alone in that place?
The three of them didn’t get into Archer Sanders’s car but instead got into Nathaniel’s.
Archer handed his car keys to Kyler Johnston, telling him to drive it back.
Even in the car, they didn’t talk about the old woman.
Sofia could sense the tension between Nathaniel and Archer, which only made her more certain that the old woman was no ordinary person.
Finally, Nathaniel pulled into Lakeside Manor.
Once they were inside the penthouse, Nathaniel said, “Sofia, if you have any questions, ask Archer.”
Sofia gave Nathaniel a puzzled look before sitting down on the couch.
The first question that came to her mind was, “Why did you leave her there all by herself?”
To Sofia, while that place wasn’t unlivable, it definitely wasn’t suitable for an elderly woman, especially one who couldn’t take care of herself.
Archer could tell that Sofia was really upset.
With a sigh, he said, “Sofia, I swear, I didn’t intentionally leave her there. It’s just… she insists on staying.”
“No matter what I do, no matter how many times I’ve tried to take her out of that place, she always manages to go back. Even if I hire people to watch over her, she finds a way to
return.”

“I can vouch for that,” Nathaniel added, walking over with a few bottles of soda and handing them to Sofia and Archer.
“We have no idea how she does it. The woman’s mental state is already in bad shape, but when she’s taken away from that place, it gets even worse.”
Sofia could tell that both of them were genuinely frustrated. It was clear they’d done everything they could and had no choice but to accept the situation.
Still, something clicked in Sofia’s mind. She wondered if the poison she’d detected in the woman’s pulse could be what was driving her behavior.
Archer continued, “Even the stuff inside that house–she somehow finds it all herself. It doesn’t matter where we throw her things away; she always manages to bring them back. Anything we give her, she throws out.”
Now Sofia understood why, despite being fully capable of taking care of the woman, they left her to live alone in such a place.
“You call her ‘ma’am,‘ so… who exactly is she?” Sofia asked.
“She was my wet nurse,” Archer explained. “Actually, she raised all the kids in the Sanders family.”
Sofia was taken aback.
Nathaniel clarified, “Mrs. Sanders–both of them–died in childbirth.”
“So your older siblings?” Sofia asked, puzzled, looking at Archer.
The Sanders family had four children, and Archer was the youngest.
“They’re my half–siblings,” Archer said. “My father had four wives.”
Talking about this seemed to embarrass Archer.
His face reddened slightly as he added, “Our family… well, I don’t know if we’re cursed or what, but every woman who’s given birth in our family has died in labor.”
That reason didn’t sound very believable to Sofia, but Archer laughed it off, clearly aware of how absurd it sounded.
“My grandfather used to say it’s probably karma for something terrible our family did,”

“So, how did wet nurse end up with your family?” Sofia asked.
“She was my grandmother’s personal servant,” Archer replied.
Sofia’s mind immediately started connecting the dots, filling with questions about this woman’s deeper connection to the Sanders family.
Archer noticed Sofia’s growing suspicion and became even more embarrassed. “She never married or had kids of her own. She nursed us using a method that… wasn’t exactly natural.”
Sofia instantly understood.
There’s a medical technique that allows women who’ve never given birth to produce milk, but in the time of Archer’s father, such techniques would’ve been rare. That Archer’s grandfather used it was astonishing.
Archer didn’t want to explain further, clearly embarrassed. “Her mental state started to deteriorate last year. She ran off to that place, and no matter what we tried, she refused to come back.”
With that, Archer’s expression turned serious as he looked directly at Sofia.
“Sofia, we’ve consulted many doctors, but none of them could even get close to her. Today, when I saw her willingly approach you, it gave me hope. Sofia, I’m begging you–can you help me save her?”
Sofia glanced at Nathaniel, trying to understand what role she was supposed to play in all
of this.
But Nathaniel remained silent, and it didn’t seem like he had told Archer anything.
So, Sofia didn’t press further and turned back to Archer. “I’m just a regular doctor. I don’t know if I can cure her.”
She still had many unanswered questions, so she wasn’t ready to easily promise Archer her help.
Archer nodded and said, “Sure, Sofia. I won’t pressure you.”
Sofia didn’t say anything more.

She planned to find some time to visit the old woman herself and figure out if there really was a connection between them.
