Chapter 78
Grace was agitated, but Scarlett remained calm
scarlett said reassuringly, “Don’t worry. The board hasn’t contacted you
i you yet, which means they haven’t discovered anything. And even if they do, it’s not Cedric i
Grace was taken aback. She couldn’t believe that Scarlett was now going so far as to protect Cedric. She scoffed. “At a time like this, you’re still thinking about him? You should talk to Cedric and tell him to keep a closer eye on that woman. He can’t afford to let anything happen because of her.”
After saying that, she hung up the phone.
Scarlett remained silent, simply glancing at her phone.
The next day, Valda was about to head to the hospital again when Cedric stopped ber.
“Mom, you shouldn’t go. Lettie called me last night and said it wouldn’t look good.”
Although Cedric appeared to be stopping her, he was utterly confused. On the other hand, Valda was even more upset after hearing this.
“What do you mean? I’ve been very kind to her, sending her food and drinks. Yet, she’s still not happy? Cedric, you need to teach that woman a lesson. She clearly doesn’t understand the rules of our family,” Valda said, plopping down on the couch in frustration.
A look of triumph flashed across Cedric’s face.
“Mom, don’t worry about it. Scarlett listens to me. All I have to do is play the victim, and she’ll agree to anything. For now, let’s just agree to her request,” he reassured her as he gently massaged her shoulders.
Feeling comforted, Valda slowly calmed down. “You’d better hurry up and win Scarlett over. Then I’ll feel at ease.”
After spealing, Valda looked at him expectantly. Cedric nodded repeatedly, then quickly sent a message to Scarlett. Relieved that Valda had been persuaded, he finally let out a sigh of relief.
Scarlett looked up and met Zoe’s gaze. A group of people accompanied Zoe, and Scarlett’s displeasure was immediate. “Are you trying to turn me into a guinea pig for your hospital experiments? Why do you keep bringing all these interns in every day? I could sue this hospital for this.”
Zoe simply smiled. “Ms. Payne, we’re just making our rounds. This way, we can provide immediate assistance if anything happens,”
She added, “It’s a necessary part of our training. Please don’t think we’re just using this situation to leam.” She stepped forward with a smile
“Where’s Leroy? Is the busy doctor taking an extended break?” Scarlett’s lips curled into a sneer, catching Zoe off guard.
“Ms. Payne, just because Mr. Olson is skilled doesn’t mean he must be at the hospital constantly. He has other things to do.”
Then, Zoe added, “Ms Payne, your leg is healing well, but I suggest you stop clinging to Mr. Olson. He’s a talented young man and shouldn’t be tied down by you.
Scarlett let out a sarcastic laugh. “Are you telling me that you’ve developed feelings for Mr. Olson? That’s the only reason I can think of for your sudden concrm Her eyes sparkled with a playful glint, yet even as she lay in bed, she radiated an air of aloofness.
Zoe couldn’t help but find it utterly absurd. “I expected more intelligence from you, Ms. Payne. But, just like that other woman, you’re jumping to wild conclusions. No wonder Mr. Olson divorced you.”
Zoe scoffed while Scarlett’s brow furrowed.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
