Chapter 77
“Let’s wait for Ms. Payne to return before we proceed. Your relatives have already been removed from the board, haven’t they? If we let them back in now, won’t that alert the entire board?” Grace reasoned..
Her words left Cedric momentarily speechless. He wondered how he could appease his mother now.
For Cedric, it was yet another day of uneasy peace.
Although he was technically filling in for Scarlett, the major decisions remained finnly under her control. His role was nothing more than to keep her office occupied in her absence.
Frustrated by this, Cedric returned to the villa that evening, his impatience evident in his expression.
Valda was already waiting when Cedric walked in.
“Mom, you’re back early. Is everything okay?” Cedric asked, puzzled.
His mother let out a weary sigh. “It’s Scarlett, that ungrateful woman. I can’t believe I wasted such a thoughtful gift on her.”
Cedric’s gaze fell on the thermos sitting on the table. “Did Scarlett say she didn’t want it?” he wondered why Scarlett would turn down such a kind gesture.
Valda nodded and continued, “Leroy returned it. He said that Scarlett’s health isn’t suitable for it.”
Cedric was stunned. “Leroy?” He became restless at the mention of Leroy. “How dare he get involved again? I knew he wouldn’t give up!”
Anger surged through him, and he felt an overwhelming urge to rush to the hospital,
“Why are you in such a hurry? I don’t think Ms. Payne has any feelings for him. Aren’t you overthinking this?
Her words caught Cedric off guard “Mom, why are you suddenly a defending Scarlett? Weren’t you just saying that she was being ungrateful?”
Valda sighed before continuing, “I’m just worried that if you storm over there like this, Scarlett might end up resenting you.”
Cedric frowned as he listened to his mother’s reasoning. “Mom, what could possibly go wrong? Scarlett listens to me now. There’s no way anything bad will happen.”
He looked puzzled.
Valda sighed. “You just don’t get it. Scarlett trusts you now, but if she starts doubting you because of this, everything you’ve worked for will be ruined.”
A sly smile spread across her face. “And guess what? Lettle told me today that she’s planning to offer you an important position at Payne Group. Don’t let something this small jeopardize such a big opportunity.”
It was clear that Valda cared more about immediate gains. He reluctantly nodded in agreement despite being unhappy with his mother’s suggestion
That same night, the video from the afternoon began circulating.
It was a clip of Valda berating Dr. Olson. The incident quicldy became the talk of the town and eventually made its way to the board of directors.
When Grace saw the video, she was stunned.
Fortunately, she reacted swiftly and had it taken down
Scarlett was at the hospital when she received an from Grace.
“What’s up, my dear secretary? Why are you calling so late?” she joked
Grace’s voice was filled with urgency. “Did Cedric’s mother drop by the hospital today?
Confused, Scarlett replied, “Yeah. She brought me some soup. Did something happen?
Grace sighed frustratedly. “A video of Mrs. Reid cursing Dr. Olson has been posted online. I don’t know if the board has seen it yet, but hopefully, they haven’t. It they have, we’re going to have a big problem.”
