Chapter 75
“Cedric has never been exposed to anything like this before. How can he possibly handle it? What if something goes wrong? Valda questioned, covertly applying reverde psychology.
Scarlett paused, taken aback by the anxiety on Valda’s face. For a moment, she wasn’t sure what the latter was trying to imply

“Mrs. Reid, I have faith in Cedric. Besides, Grace will be there to help him. Nothing will go wrong.”
Scarlett trusted Grace. As long as nothing unexpected happened, she could take over as soon as she was discharged from the hospital.
Valda sighed. “Lettie, I can’t thank you enough. You’ve given Cedric such a wonderful opportunity.” Tears welled up in her eyes as she spoke
Scarlett’s heart softened at this sight. “Mrs. Reid, as long as Cedric does well, he will definitely have a place in Payne Group.”
Scarlett’s words filled Valda with joy, and she couldn’t hide her excitement. “Really? Lettie, you’re truly Cedric’s benefactor. Without you, he would never have been able to join Payne Group.”
”
Scarlett felt a flicker of resentiment at Valda’s words but nodded nonetheless.
“Mrs. Reid, I’m feeling a bit tired. If you need to leave, please feel free to go ahead.”
As Scarlett spoke, Valda’s expression grew even more forced.
Valda managed a smile and stood up. She said, “Lettle, take care of yourself. I’ll be on my way now.” With that, she tumed and left. However, she didn’t take the
thermos with her.
Scarlett inhaled the lingering scent. It was delicate yet carried an air of luxury. But it didn’t appeal to her in the slightest.
In fact, it left her feeling rather repulsed. Just as the discomfort started to settle in, Leroy pushed open the door. At last, Scarlett was saved.
“Hurry up and take this away, Scarlett said, glancing at the thermal container on the table.
Leroy was startled. “Why is this soup here again?” he muttered, setting down the box he held.
“Don’t you ever get tired of it?” Scarlett asked, her lips curling into a mocking smile. “I thought you had the day ott.”
Noticing the change in her tone, Leroy simply glanced at her. “Ms. Payne, I’m just fulfilling our agreement. I have no ulterior motives. Please don’t misunderstand. *** With that, he was ready to leave.
Scarlett frowned. “Leroy, aren’t you going to use this opportunity to win me back?” Her gaze grew sharper, filled with growing menace.
Leroy chuckled bitterly. “Ms. Payne, you must be joking. We’re divorced, Why would I care about you? I’m a doctor, and you’re just my patient”
His frustration grew as he added, “Or maybe you’re already tired of Cedric. Is he not your true love? It hasn’t been long since he came back”
With that, Leroy turned and walked away, his smile cold.
Scarlett was taken aback. She had intended to mock him to discourage any unrealistic hopes he might have. But instead, she found herself on the receiving end of his bitter remarks.
Losing her appetite, she closed her eyes.
As Leroy stepped out of the ward, he spotted Valda standing in the corridor
A flicker of surprise crossed his face, especially when he saw her gaze linger on the thermal container in his hands. It felt like a hot potato in his grasp.
“What are you doing with that? That’s the soup I made for Lettie.”
