Chapter 63
Now that Scarlett had gotten a hold of Cedric, she began recalling everything as he had suggested.
“I was driving when the accident happened.”
Cedric furrowed his brow as if he hadn’t heard her conestly.
But before he could ask for clarification, Scarlett continued, “It was Leroy, I was on the phone with him at the time, and I didn’t notice the car at the intersection ”
As Scarlett finished speaking, a faint smile crept onto Cedtle’s lips.
“Leroy?” he repeated. “Why on earth would he call you while you were driving? It’s like he wanted you to get into an accident.”
Cedric sighed. Then, shaking his head, he added, “Fortunately, you weren’t seriously injured this time. If you’d hurt your leg again… I don’t know what I would
have done.
“Lettie, you have no idea how panicked I was when I heard about your accident. I was terrified I might lose you.”
Cedric’s sincerity calmed Scarlett. Though she didn’t say anything, she couldn’t shake the thought of what Cedric had said. Why would Leroy call her at that exact moment?
“Cedric, I’ve asked Victor to take you home. It’s late now. You should go.” Scarlett insisted.
Cedric wanted to stay, but he couldn’t resist her insistence. As he stepped out of the ward, a smile curled on his lips. Everything was unfolding just as he had planned.
Now, all that remained was to see if Leroy would come looking for trouble. The seed of doubt had been sown, and Scarlett wouldn’t be so quick to trust him anymore
Leroy found out that Sca
1 Scarlett had woken up early the next morning. After a quick breakfast, he hurried over without delay.
Zoe was waiting by the door when he arrived.
“Mr. Olson, please come in. We’ve all been expecting you,” she said.
Several interns stood beside her, their eyes filled with anticipation.
Leroy’s reputation preceded him. As a young, promising doctor, he had even been featured in textbooks. Hence, it was no surprise that the students were so excited. Leroy felt a bit awkward and smiled nervously, “Why is everyone staring at me like that?”
The others around him immediately stood up straighter in respect.
“Mr. Olson, I was just worried about you getting into trouble, so I brought a few people along for support,” Zoe explained, her voice laced with concem.
She had already briefed the interns on the situation and felt little regard for Scarlett at this point.
Leroy sighed at her words. “I’m a doctor here to check on a patient, not start a fight. Why did you bring so many people?”
Despite his frustration, Leroy led Zoe into the room. Scarlett was alone, her expression distant and cold.
Zoe’s face hardened.
Are you feeling better? Leroy asked gently as he examined the wound. He was relieved to find no signs of infection.
*When can I be discharged, Dr. Olson?” Scarlett’s voice was flat, void of any emotion.
Leroy was taken aback by her tone and the faint resentment in her eyes as she addressed him so formally.
Zoe furrowed her brow
Leroy shook his head. “You’ll need at least two more weeks. Your wound needs more time to heal before you can be discharged, Ms. Payne. ”
Scarlett didn’t respond. An awkward tension filled the room.
Zoe, growing increasingly impatient, let out a deliberate cough. Understanding Zoe’s unspoken message, Leroy sighed. “Scarlett, there’s something I need to talk to you about.”
Scarlett responded with a dismissive scott.
