Chapter 22
Prolonged malnourishment and torment had turned Nadine from a rosy cheeked, healthy woman to nothing more than skin and bones.
Marie had only slapped het once, but she collapsed on the floor, unable to get up. That wasn’t enough to appease the former, though. She pounced on Nadine and grabbed her by the collar, slapping her a few more times.
The prison wardens noticed this and shot forward to stop Marie. If not for that, Nadine would probably have died then and there,
Despite being restrained by two prison wardens, Marie didn’t stop screaming at Nadine. “Why weren’t you the one in that accident, you pathetic bitch? Why aren’t you the one whe’s in a coma
Nadine only found her nasty words mocking. When Enzo had been in love with her, Marie had treated her like she was her own. She’d basically thought of Nadine as her daughter, Now that Enzo despised her, Marie’s attitude had also done a 180, She didn’t even bother referring to Nadine by name now–the latter was just a bitch to her.
Nadine only spoke when Marie finally grew tired of screaming and sat down for a sip of water. She asked, “You said I’m pathetic, right? Isn’t your son the same? He claimed he loved me, yet he would always abandon me and go to Alyssa whenever she called.
“He whispered sweet nothings to me while leading Alyssa on–don’t you think he’s even more pathetic for having his cake and wanting it, too? He’s the one at fault, yet he blames everything on women! Trash like him is better off dead! He deserved to get in that accident! The world would be much better with him forever in a coma!”
She burst into hysterical laughter, but tears streamed down her face after a while.
She and Enzo had been a happy, loving couple. If not for Alyssa, and if not for him wanting to have the best of both worlds, she wouldn’t have done any of those things! She would never have ended up the way she was now!
It was all their fault! She’d done nothing wrong! She would never be wrong!
Seemingly finding an outlet to vent, Nadine suddenly started hurling insults at Marie like a mad woman. When her rant ended, she suddenly thought of something and smiled menacingly. “I forgot to tell you that Enzo and I aren’t divorced yet. I’ll never agree to one, so he and the Slaters will never be free of me!”
“You bitch!” Marie’s hands trembled with rage. She couldn’t bring herself to say anything else.
Alyssa heard about the mess with the Slater family. Her gaze flickered slightly when she heard Enzo’s name again. There’d been nothing between them the moment she’d given up on her feelings for him and come to Angleria; she hadn’t expected him to end up like this.
Still, she calmly accepted that he was comatose. They were now strangers, after all. Whatever happened to him had nothing to do with her.
The person who’d brought up the subject watched her carefully, sighing in relief when they saw that she was unfazed.
Some people were confused, though. Alyssa and Enzo had spent so many years together. Did she really feel nothing for him anymore?
Alyssa shook her head. How could she still harbor feelings for him after everything she’d been through? Besides, she had more important people in her life now.
Adrian approached her from a distance, their daughter in his arms. He held her hand gently and sald, “We’re here to take you home, Liss.”
Home–that was Alyssa’s favorite word now.
She smiled at them and returned Adrian’s grasp. “Okay. Let’s go home.”
From now on, he and their daughter would be by her side through thick and thin.
