Chapter 19
After what happened at the previous banquet, Adrian took extra precautions when throwing Alyssa a birthday celebration. He had several bodyguards stationed at each exit and entrance, afraid that Enzo would crash the party at any moment.
Unexpectedly, Enzo didn’t show up this time. Adrian was surprised when Andrew reported to him on that but still felt uneasy. Ultimately, he told Andrew to keep the bodyguards where they were.
Alyssa’s birthday celebration was grander than any other held in the past. Adrian had rented out every major billboard in Angleria to livestream the event, and fireworks surrounded the castle grounds. They would light up the sky when Alyssa blew out the candles.
The castle was also filled with Alyssa’s favorite flowers and diamonds. Gifts from the guests formed a small hill almost as tall as the castle–shaped birthday cake Adrian had custom–made.
At the climax of the celebration, Adrian helped Alyssa put on a multimillion–dollar necklace he’d gotten in an auction. Then, they blew out the candles on the birthday cake together. At the same time, fireworks lit up the sky outside the castle. They lasted until the celebration was over.
The guests started leaving. As the hosts of the celebration, Alyssa and Adrian stood at the castle’s entrance to see them off. She was about to say something when countless drones appeared in the sky and rearranged into various formations.
She looked at Adrian and asked with her eyes whether he was behind this. However, he shook his head. He had indeed prepared a private drone show for her, but this was not it. Just then, one of the guests who’d had yet to leave cried, “Look, it’s so pretty!”
Another exclaimed, “Those formations look like a love confession.”
“That’s so romantic!”
Alyssa’s and Adrian’s expressions shifted at their words. They turned to look at the drones again. The longer Alyssa looked at them, the more familiar they seemed. Her expression gradually became uglier.
Initially, the drones only formed images of Alyssa alone. Then, halfway through, they formed images of her with someone else. The guests didn’t recognize the man, but she instantly knew that it was Enzo!
Her mind went blank. “Is he… Is he trying to ruin me?”
Although the birthday billboards had already stopped broadcasting, countless people were still watching from their balconies, reluctant to let the night end.
Alyssa could already imagine the media frenzy that would occur tomorrow, thanks to Enzo’s grand confession at this moment.
Adrian thought of the same thing, Alyssa was going to be his wife, yet another man was confessing his love for her during her birthday celebration. He couldn’t imagine the consequences of that.
He summoned Andrew and ordered him to have the drones shot down. Then, he comforted Alyssa. “Everything will be fine, Liss. I’ll deal with this, okay? I won’t let this matter affect you.”
Then, he had someone send her home. After that, he got into another sports car. He sped from one end of Linkton to the other and soon disappeared along a road. Meanwhile, on the other end of Linkton, Enzo stood on a balcony high in the air and watched the drone show in the distance. A trace of loneliness flickered in his eyes. The first wish Alyssa had made upon being brought to the Slater residence was that she hoped to see a drone show during her birthday celebration.
This was a simple matter, and Enzo had naturally satisfied her. From then on, he’d never disappointed her for each of her birthday celebrations.
However, that had changed when she’d developed feelings for him and fallen hopelessly in love with him. That was the first time he hadn’t given her a drone show during her birthday celebration. Heck, he hadn’t even celebrated her birthday.
If he had to guess, Alyssa had probably wished for the drone show to form images of them being deeply in love. It had been years, and he was now throwing a drone show for her again. However, the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with had become someone else.
Enzo laughed bitterly. He concealed the bitterness in her eyes and turned to leave. In the next second, someone swung a punch at him!
