Chapter 5
While I was still trying to make sense of everything, a soft, sweet voice drifted into my ears.
“The housekeeper offered to help, but I think you’d feel more comfortable wearing clothes I ironed myself. I’ve already organized everything and hung them in your closet. Oh, and I bought you two new jackets. Can you try them on later to see if they fit?”
“Mm,” Ricky Grayton responded with a low hum.
“Biscuit, why are you running out again? What if you scare the neighbors?”
Their interaction felt so natural, like a couple who had been together for years.
I looked up, and a man and woman stepped out of the apartment.
My heart twisted painfully, and half my head went numb in an instant.
Ricky was walking in front, his hand holding the woman’s. Her voice was unmistakably the
same as the one in the videos.
Ricky affectionately reached out and tapped her nose with his finger, the gesture intimate
and tender.
The girl beamed, leaning coquettishly into his arms as they chatted happily.
Their height difference was adorable, and they looked perfect together.
The housekeeper was holding a leash, while the girl crouched down, scooped up the small
dog, and stroked its fur lovingly.
Ricky gazed at her, his eyes soft and full of warmth.
It was a look I had never seen before–like sunlight breaking through a cold winter’s day,
glowing with affection and tenderness.
Then, his
gaze shifted ever so slightly and landed on me, standing just behind the housekeeper and the girl, my face frozen in shock.
