Sophia was momentarily shunned, clearly not expecting my sudden question.
She paused briefly before answering, “Yes,”
She had consulted with the doctor and learned that I couldn’t afford significant emotional disturbances during this period, so her attitude toward me had become particularly accommodating.
I pressed my lips together, my gaze falling on the breakfast Edison had brought.
“I won’t eat anything he buys.“.
She frowned as though she wanted to speak on his behalf. But in the end, she said nothing. She stood up and threw the breakfast away.
“What would you like to eat? I’ll get it for you.”
“No need. The nurse will bring breakfast soon.”
During my hospital stay, the nurse mostly took care of me. She already knew the kind of breakfast I liked.
Hearing this, Sophia didn’t argue because she truly didn’t know my preferences.
“What do you want to tell me?”
My sudden question startled her again.
While she hesitated, I spoke directly. “I’ve liked you for many years, so I understand you. You wouldn’t look like this if you didn’t have something to say
to me.
She clasped her hands together and looked at me earnestly,
“Joshua, I’ve arranged for someone to help you transfer to a better hospital. They have a top–tier medical team that can provide more effective treatment to help you recover as quickly as possible.”
“You want me to transfer hospitals?”
I hadn’t expected Sophia to go to such lengths to find another hospital for me.
At that moment, my resolve began to waver again.
If she was putting in this much effort, did it mean that beyond guilt, she might
for me even just a little?
When I didn’t respond after a moment, she couldn’t help but ask, “Don’t you want to transfer?”
“Only someone who wants to keep living would seek better treatment.” I no longer had a reason to keep living.
There was little in this world worth my attachment. During my time in the hospital, I had even started to question the purpose of continuing to fight for my life.
Sophia’s brows furrowed deeply as she spoke with unwavering determination. “Joshua, you have to live. I won’t let you die.”
“I’ve already consulted Dr. Cowell. He said your condition is currently stable so a transter can be arranged. The hospital I found has a more specialized medical team for your treatment. It’s nothing beneficial for you,”
She had made her stance so clear that I knew there was no room fo
for negotiation
I pressed my lips together and asked hoarsely, “Does Jayden know about this?”
Just as I asked, a familiar voice came from outside the door. “V
“What should I know about?”
I turned to look toward the entrance. Before I could say anything, he walked into the ward, his face weary. “Toshua, how are you feeling today?”
“Pretty good,” I responded softly.
Just as I was about to explain, Sophia spoke first. “Jayden, I’ve arranged for Joshua to transfer to a more specialized hospital. I’ve consulted Dr. Cowell, who said Joshua’s condition is relatively stable now. The transfer can be done today. Thank you for taking care of him during this time. I appreciate it.”
