Chapter 8
The topic of Ethan Chase and Chloe James’s passionate romance hung on the trending list for three days and nights.
When Ethan called, I had just finished washing up and was lying in bed to rest.
The doctor said it was my first pregnancy that I had terminated, so I shouldn’t overexert myself.
“Sammy, listen to me explain. These past three days, I’ve been at the hospital clearing things up with Chloe James. I didn’t
mean to take so long.
“And that trending ‘passionate romance‘ is complete nonsense. The promise bracelet, engagement ring, secret
pregnancy–none of it is true.”
I listened in bewilderment. “What are you talking about?”
Hearing this, disappointment filled Ethan’s voice as he cautiously asked me:
“Sammy, haven’t you seen the trending topics?”
I really hadn’t. I’d even uninstalled all my social media apps.
These three days, I’d been going to bed early and waking up early, living very healthily.
Calmly applying a face mask, I replied in a composed voice:
“Ethan, when are you free? Let’s get our divorce papers sorted out.”
“Sammy, I’m not getting divorced!”
About half an hour later, Ethan’s voice sounded from outside the front door.
He demanded to know why I wouldn’t let him in, and why I’d thrown all his luggage out.
At the same time, Mike sent me many photos and voice messages:
“Ms. Hayes, paparazzi caught Ethan outside a villa.
“They’re threatening us with a hundred million dollar scandal. What should we do?”
Seeing Mike’s panic, I calmly said:
“Mike, there are some things you have to experience. If you really don’t know how to handle it, ask the person involved.
After all, I’ve already resigned, so there’s no need for me to worry about these things anymore.”
“Okay, I know what to do now, Ms. Hayes.”
After hanging up, I had a wonderful sleep.
Early the next morning, I saw hundreds of missed calls and text messages on my phone.
I randomly opened one. Mike was asking in surprise:
“Ms. Hayes, you and Ethan are actually married?! You’ve kept it so well hidden! I never noticed.”
It wasn’t just Mike. Even entertainment reporters I’d worked with before, along with many directors and actors, were
privately asking about my relationship with Ethan Chase.
Almost instinctively, I replied to Mike:
“You’ve misunderstood, Mike. Ethan and I aren’t in that kind of relationship.”
“Ms. Hayes, stop trying to fool me. Ethan has already made an official announcement!”
Frightened, I hurriedly re–downloaded social media and turned on the entertainment channel.
The screen was filled with Ethan’s official announcement:
[My wife @Chase’s little assistant Sammy kicked me out. What should I do? Seeking advice online…]
It was accompanied by two photos.
One showed Ethan leaning against the villa’s main gate, looking pitifully at his packed luggage on the ground.
The other was our marriage certificate.
The comments on the post were all over the place.
[Damn, Ethan Chase, you’ve got guts! You’re the first to announce it like this.]
[So the ‘childhood sweethearts‘ I was rooting for was fake?]
[What makes this Samantha worthy? How can a 30–year–old hag be good enough for our brother?]
