Chapter 7
As I picked up the scattered photos from the floor, I realized Ethan Chase had misunderstood my relationship with Mike.
I calmly looked into Chase’s eyes and said, “Well, that saves me the trouble of introducing you two.”
“Introduce? What do you mean?”
I shrugged nonchalantly and replied without hesitation:
“He’s your new assistant. We just signed the contract today.”
I took out the contract, placed it on the bed, and spread it out for Chase to see.
With each page he turned, Chase’s face darkened a shade. “Who gave you permission to terminate the contract on your
own?”
“How else could I divorce you if I didn’t?”
Chase was momentarily struck dumb by my retort, staring at me in disbelief:
“Divorce… Samantha, are you serious?”
I pulled out the divorce agreement I had previously signed and placed it next to the new assistant’s contract:
“Do I look like I’m joking?”
Chase froze, his voice trembling as he spoke:
“Samantha, I’ve explained this to you many times. There’s nothing between Chloe James and me.
“The kiss at the film festival was just for publicity. Our new show is about to air.
“We’re all adults here. Can’t you stop making a fuss over something so trivial? I really don’t have the energy to humor you.”
I’m not very tall, and standing on the same level as Chase, I could see the bite mark on his collarbone when I looked up.
Amidst the man’s belated panic, I smiled calmly and said:
“Childhood sweethearts… To be honest, Chase, I’m starting to ship you two a little.”
Just as I finished speaking, the front door of the villa opened.
The next moment, Chloe James stumbled in, calling out weakly:
“Chase Bro…”
Chase reflexively rushed to Chloe James’s side, holding her tightly in his arms.
Chloe James raised her hand to caress Chase’s face, her eyes blurred with tears as she said:
“Bro, I was worried something had happened to you, so I drove back overnight.”
Chase cupped Chloe James’s face with his eyes full of concern, chiding her affectionately:
“Why did you come back? What if something had happened to you on the way?
“Look at your feet, they’re bleeding from those high heels.”
Then the man turned to me, his gaze carrying a pleading look:
“Samantha, can we stop this for now?
“You can see Chloe’s hurt, we can’t delay. Be a good girl and wait for me at home. We’ll talk properly when I get back.”
I nodded with a smile, kindly handing Chase his discarded suit jacket:
“Cover up well, there are many paparazzi out there.”
Chase stared at me as if I were his savior, already at the entrance.
He was in such a hurry that he didn’t even notice he had put on mismatched shoes.
Watching their retreating figures, I abruptly closed the villa door.
Then I called the housekeeper and had all of Chase’s personal belongings cleaned up and packed, asking someone to
throw them out of the villa.
