It was a video clip from last night’s film festival.
When the camera focused on Ethan Chase and Chloe James beside him, they exchanged several shy glances, both with
smiles on their faces.
Then, in front of everyone present and the cameras, Chloe James mustered up the courage to kiss Ethan Chase. Only then
did he restrain her nape with one hand, guiding her to his Adam’s apple.
The deafening screams in the video abruptly stopped as I exited it.
Unintentionally clicking on high–resolution photos taken by on–site reporters, I noticed a pair of small fang marks on Ethan Chase’s Adam’s apple.
On our wedding night, when Ethan Chase was still working as a stunt double in the entertainment industry, he pinned me down on the bed and passionately embraced me.
He cupped the back of my head, urging me to bite his protruding Adam’s apple, his deep voice still echoing in my ears:
“Samantha, bite me.”
Only when my teeth sank into his skin did Ethan Chase reluctantly embrace me, kissing the top of my head over and over: “It really hurts. This isn’t a dream.
“Samantha, I really married you.”
Back then, Ethan Chase truly treated me like his unattainable goddess.
I locked my phone screen, put it away, and closed my eyes, telling the doctor:
“Doctor, please continue.”
Contrary to what I had imagined, I didn’t feel much pain after the surgery. Instead, I felt light as a feather.
The next morning, as soon as I was discharged, I arranged to interview a new assistant at a coffee shop near the hospital.
To ensure the assistant wouldn’t be bullied, I deliberately chose a male assistant.
After confirming all the details, I began signing the contract with Mike.
“Ms. Hayes, Chase is such a great guy. Why are you resigning?
“You have no idea how many people are racking their brains trying to become Chase’s assistant.”
I curved my lips slightly: “I’m getting old, I suppose. This job is more suitable for energetic young people like you.” Mike looked at me with a mix of understanding and confusion, his eyes flickering with both regret and aspiration. “But I don’t think you’re old at all. You’ve been with Chase from when he was unknown to now when he’s famous. You
must have gone through a lot. You’re really an excellent assistant.”
I smiled faintly, putting the signed contract into my bag: “Perhaps. Mike, I wish you a bright future and smooth sailing.” After dealing with the assistant matter, I drove home.
To my surprise, Ethan Chase, who was supposed to be filming in the neighboring city, was sitting motionless on the sofa. The man’s eyes, as he looked at me, were bloodshot, his voice cold:
“Samantha, where were you last night?”
“What’s it to you?”
I changed my shoes and went straight to the bedroom.
In the past, when Ethan Chase didn’t come home countless times, I would ask him the same question.
I would even call his friends one by one, inquiring about his whereabouts.
Sometimes they would lie for Ethan Chase, and sometimes an impatient Ethan Chase would grab the phone and curse at
me:
“Samantha, what business is it of yours where I go!
“I’m an adult. Where I go and what I do is my own privacy. Can’t you stop meddling?”
While enduring Ethan Chase’s insults, I would think about how to humbly apologize to him, just so he would listen to my advice to drink less.
But while I was full of concern, what I heard from the other end of the phone was Chloe James’s coquettish voice: “Chase Bro, come dance with me-” ”
Before I could even remind him, Ethan Chase had already hung up the phone impatiently.
Now, hearing my similar response, Ethan Chase’s expression froze, and he followed me into the bedroom. Then two photos were thrown in my face, the man’s eyes red:
“Samantha, what’s your relationship with him?”
