Chapter 5

That scene didn’t feature a close–up of my face.
Even now, Chloe James’s fan circles still spread the admirable tale of her professionalism, never using a stunt double for
the sake of filming effects.
Because of that scene, Chloe James became the Most Popular Actress in Hollywood.
As for me, without any protection, I was pushed by Ethan from a cliff several stories high, breaking my right leg and
spending half a year in the hospital.
During my entire hospital stay, Ethan only visited once, and that was because Chloe James had been scratched by her pet
cat on her finger, and he brought her to the hospital for bandaging.
Even though we were just a wall apart in the hospital, Ethan was afraid of dirtying his shoes
At this moment, the man was left speechless by my words.
I silently took out the divorce papers I had prepared in advance from my bag, placed them on the coffee table, and calmly
said:
“Ethan, let’s get a divorce.”
Hearing this, Ethan froze on the spot, staring at me blankly:
“What did you say, Samantha?”
I took out a pen, signed each page of the divorce agreement, then pressed my thumbprint with lipstick, and pushed the
papers towards Ethan:
“I said, I want a divorce.”
Ethan tugged at his shirt collar, frowning, “Samantha, have you lost your mind? Who else would want a middle–aged
woman like you if you leave me?”
So, in Ethan’s eyes, I, a woman who had just turned thirty, had already become middle–aged.
I tossed the pen into Ethan’s lap:
“Ever heard of ‘thirty and thriving‘?
“But as you know, Ethan, after the divorce, I won’t be able to continue as your assistant. You’ll need to give me a few days
to hand over your work arrangements for the past few years to the new assistant.”
My candid words were met with a scornful smirk from Ethan.
He pointed at me with one hand, his eyes filled with contempt:
“Samantha, you’re playing with fire if you take this act too far!”

Just as he finished speaking, Chloe James’s signature ringtone started playing.
Ethan didn’t answer, instead fixing me with a threatening gaze:
“Didn’t you want to get pregnant before you turned thirty? I know you’re in your ovulation window these two days.
“Samantha, I’ll give you three seconds to take back what you just said.”
The birthday wish I made last year at twenty–nine had turned my ovulation window into a scheduled task for Ethan and
me to fulfill our marital duties.
But Ethan didn’t know that I had stopped ovulating since last month.
The phone ringtone echoing in the center of the living room was like a ticking time bomb.
After three seconds, it would shatter the last connection between Ethan and me.
“You’ve got guts, Samantha. Let’s see how long you can keep up this tough act!”
With that, the man turned and left the villa,
The moment the front door slammed shut, I took out my phone and scheduled an abortion for the day after tomorrow.
Lying on the operating table, the doctor looked at the ultrasound of the baby and tried to persuade me:
“Ms. Hayes, your baby is developing very well. Are you sure you don’t want to discuss this with the father again?”
At the same time, a trending topic notification popped up on my phone.
