Chapter 3
O
I lay back down on the bed, turning on my side:
“It’s fine, my takeout delivery is almost here anyway.”
Hearing this, Ethan’s expression darkened, and he said in a low voice:
“Why didn’t you tell me you ordered takeout?
“Samantha, I’ve told you many times, there’s nothing between Chloe James and me. It’s all just for the cinematic effect of
the show.
“I don’t understand why you’re acting like this. Why are you being so petty?”
Faced with the man’s explanation, I coldly replied:
“I’m not acting like anything.”
My honest response only fueled Ethan’s anger.
He threw the takeout box into the trash can, his tone icy:
“Then why didn’t you bring medicine for Chloe James? I told you it’s inconvenient for me to go to the hospital given my
status.
“It’s such a small thing to buy medicine. Samantha, is this really necessary?”
Buying medicine might be a small matter, but what about washing clothes and cooking?
Chloe James claimed to have a cleanliness obsession, insisting all her clothes be hand–washed.
So even when filming in sub–zero temperatures up north, Ethan would order me to wash Chloe James’s clothes by hand,
despite the painful chilblains on my fingers.
I remember once when my chilblains were so severe they became infected and bled, staining Chloe James’s clothes.
When Ethan saw it, he kicked me out of the hotel, forcing me to wash Chloe James’s clothes outside in the freezing cold,
wearing only a thin nightgown, with no floor heating and three feet of snow, just because Chloe James had said, “Ethan, I
heard from my relatives that chilblains can only be cured by freezing snow.”
In Ethan’s mind, I’ve always been just a housekeeper, following orders and doing everything as told.
But after five years of being a housekeeper, I’m sick and tired of it.
I pulled the blanket over my head and said coldly, “I don’t feel well. I don’t want to go.”
On the other side of the blanket, silence lingered for a long time before Ethan stormed off in anger.
That night, Ethan and Chloe James became a viral trend.
In the video, the man was carrying Chloe James in a swoop–in carry into the hospital, frantically shouting ‘Emergency!‘
The comment section was full of praise:
[Wow, is this Mr. Chase’s official reveal?]
[Oh my god, that swoop–in carry! I’m so jealous. With my weight, I bet any man would throw out his back.]
[Doesn’t anyone care what happened to our Chloe? Why did she need emergency care?]
[I’m from the crew. At the time, Chloe said her forehead felt a bit hot and wanted to find a thermometer. When Ethan
found out, he immediately scooped her up from the lounge chair into the van and personally drove Chloe to the hospital.]
[I knew I shipped the right couple! Oh my god, I ship them so hard!]
Just as I was scrolling through the comments, Ethan’s call came in.
Before I could speak, the man hurriedly explained:
“Samantha, I took Chloe James to the hospital because she said she had a fever.
“I was worried the fever would affect the filming schedule, nothing more.
“Can you please not misunderstand about the viral trend? There’s really nothing between Chloe James and me.”
“Okay.”
My sincere response left Ethan speechless for half a minute: “What did you say?”
“It’s all for promoting the new show, I understand. Don’t worry, I’ll handle things with the reporters.”
