Chapter 73
“Caleb, I don’t know when Evelyn got hurt. If I had known, I wouldn’t have… Ava’s voice carried urgency, but her eyes were filled with almost overflowing jealousy and hatred. She wished Evelyn would die, or at least be crippled.
Caleb impatiently looked back at the bedroom time and again. Evelyn probably had a bad dream, whimpering softly in her sleep. So he stood at the doorway, interrupting the conversation at the other end of the phone. “I still have things to do. Gotta go.”
After finishing speaking, he didn’t care what Ava was thinking. He hurried to the bedside and saw Evelyn’s face covered in cold sweat, her brows deeply furrowed, and she was muttering something under her breath.
Caleb gently wiped the sweat off her face with his hand, while Evelyn felt his touch, her head gently shaking to dodge
Caleb leaned over and listened to Evelyn mumbling intermittently. “Don’t… Caleb… Don’t Get away… No…..
Her weak voice was filled with panic. Under her tightly closed eyes, her eyeballs moved chaotically without rhythm, as if hinting at how terrifying the scenes in her dream were. As if someone had poured a bucket of cold water over him from head to toe, Caleb looked as if he was dumped. He didn’t dare to continue sitting on the bed, so he quickly got up and sat down on the sofa opposite the bed, silently watching Evelyn, who gradually calmed down due to his distance. A sudden, inexplicable irritability arose within. Was it because of his proximity that she was even scared in her dreams?
The next day, Evelyn slowly awoke, and the first thing she saw was the chandelier which was both strange and familiar.
She was stunned for a moment, thinking she was dreaming. Then she closed her eyes and opened them again. Indeed, it was the chandelier hanging from the ceiling in Caleb’s room.
Evelyn turned her head and saw her well–bandaged shoulder, the pure white gauze without any trace of blood. She tried to move her body, and the previously numb shoulders suddenly hurt intensely.
She moaned in pain. It hurt. She really was cursed with bad luck, always putting herself in such a mess. She was either waking up in bed injured or was about to wake up in bed injured. Just this time, the bed she woke up in made her feel disgusted.
Evelyn wanted to get up, but her shoulder hurt so much that she had to give up and just look at the white ceiling above her head. After all the twists and turns, she had ended up back here again.
A fervent gaze was cast over, and Evelyn almost didn’t need to thank to know who was watching her at the door.
“Are you feeling better?” Caleb walked in holding a bowl of oatmeal, looking at her with a nervous expression

Hearing this, Evelyn did not move her gaze in the slightest but kept staring intently at the ceiling above her he “Mr. Mercer, for your concern. I haven’t been pinched to death or crippled by you yet. You must be very di–pointed.
aren’t you?”
“You! What nonsense are you talking about? How could I… kill you?” Caleb looked at Evelyn awkwardly. “Come on. Eat something first.”
Caleb walked up to her, and as she looked at Caleb, she actually saw a look of distress in his eyes.
Evelyn turned her head aside with a cold sneer. ‘Distress? This man actually felt sorry for me? Doesn’t he wish I was dead instead! Now he is acting all pretentious here. Doesn’t he feel disgusted?‘ thought Evelyn
“Evelyn…” Caleb saw that she directly ignored him, preferring to look at the blank wall rather than at him. He paused as he held the spoon.
