Chapter 67
Caleb followed the noise and looked over to see a faint pink skirt hem at the entrance of the cinema, followed by the shouting of two women. Caleb didn’t want to get involved in the first place but suddenly realized that one of the voices. sounded familiar.
He hurried outside and was met with the sight of a group of seedy–looking troublemakers grabbing at two young women. Among them. Caleb recognized a familiar face – Evelyn’s and anger flared in his eyes. He saw red when one of the thugs. with bleached hair, dared to put his hand on her waist, Clenching his jaw, Caleb sprang into action, yanking the bleached- hair guy away and planting a solid kick into his chest. The thug was airborne for a moment before crumpling to the ground several feet away. The other punks, seeing their buddy go down, beat a hasty retreat, leaving their fallen comrade whimpering on the pavement.
The piercing scream of a girl abruptly cut through the commotion, and Caleb looked up just in time to see a scared–looking girl glancing at him with her head cocked in fear. Her face was delicate with small dimples, and big, expressive eyes that momentarily chased away the shadow hanging over Galeb’s heart.
Caleb tried a reassuring smile, then turned to the woman he’d instinctively pulled into his protection. He felt awkward holding her. “Evelyn, what the heck are you doing out here this late?”
Evelyn shoved him away and stumbled back, wincing as the freshly medicated spots on her shoulders throbbed in protest. Caleb reached out to steady her, but she jerked away, her eyes icy. “Back off. It’s none of your business.”

Evelyn thought to herself, “Yesterday, he didn’t even care about me. And now, he’s all up in my space? Give me a break. “Evelyn? Do you guys know each other?” Zoey was somewhat puzzled.
“No. Evelyn turned her head and took Zoey’s hand, ready to leave.
A hand immediately blocked in front of her. “Evelyn… how is your injury?”
Evelyn looked down at the hand blocking in front of her. She was silent for a long time until she heard Zoey’s voice and then came back to her senses.
With a sharp flick, Zoey smacked away Caleb’s hand. It was a light tap, but it drew their eyes. She latched onto Evelyn’s hand again, realization dawning. Zoey confronted Caleb, “Oh So you’re the jerk who hurt Evelyn’s shoulder? How could you do
that to her?”
Evelyn immediately wanted to raise her hand to cover Zoey’s mouth. Yet, she had exerted so much strength to push Caleb away just now, and she now found herself somewhat unable to lift her hand.
“Zoey, stop talking. It’s not him. It has nothing to do with him. Let’s go. You are going to be late for the premiere.” Evelyn didn’t even look at Caleb. Seeing that there was nothing else blocking the way ahead, she took the lead and walked toward.
the cinema.
Zoey, catching on, chased after Evelyn with a big grin plastered on her face. Despite feeling Caleb’s stare burning into their backs, Zoey circled back to him with a curious bounce. She tilted her head, and with an innocent glimmer in her eyes, she asked, “Mr. Mercer, do you know my big brother?”
Caleb withdrew his gaze and looked at the cute little girl in front of him, a strange feeling welling up inside him. He replied, “Mr. Harper? Of course, I know him. What’s the matter, Ms. Harper?”
Zoey replied with a cute smile, “It’s nothing. I was just asking. It seems like Felix has been really busy these past few days. Zoey happily chased after Evelyn again after saying such an ambiguous sentence.
