Chapter 39
She felt like her life was a joke because every time she felt hopeful about the future, she was hit with another setback.
Evelyn understood Bobby because she felt the same way. She started the company and it was really difficult for her to let go. However, things didn’t end up how she planned. She couldn’t do anything about the company in her last two years. “Since you came back. Ms. Brin, you can run the company again, right?” Bobby asked tentatively.
“Bobby” Evelyn put down the documents and looked up at him seriously. “I came back this time to sell Evelyn Jewelry.”
Bobby realized that Evelyn was serious. He lowered his head and happened to see the rising index on the paper, which made him more confused about her decision
He said, “Is it because our brand was sold, Ms. Brin? I can get it back
“No. It has nothing to do with this.”
“Then why?”
He used to admire Evelyn’s open mind, and he even thought Caleb was being too much at that time,
So he asked. “Is it because of Mr. Mercer? But he hasn’t shown any intention of fighting with Evelyn Jewelry.”
“Not him. It’s my problem.”
Evelyn paused. Seeing Bobby’s confused look, she somehow felt relieved.
She was extremely nervous when she learned that she was dying
However, she felt lucky to know she still had two years.
When she left the hospital and drove past Evelyn Jewelry, she couldn’t help feeling sad.
She was surprised to find the company still up and running, not shuttered as she’d anticipated. Even more, the brand’s handover hadn’t put a dent in the sales numbers. Sure, she could’ve stepped back in, picked up where she left off with the work she was passionate about, but with just two years left on her clock, she figured it was time to clock out for good. Rest, from here on out, seemed like the only thing that made sense.
So she walked into the building, her mind made up. The moment she stepped into Evelyn Jewelry’s office, the whole team crowded around her, giving her a warm welcome. Their buzz of excitement even pulled Bobby away from his work. That was when they all started catching up.
Evelyn exhaled a long sigh, a faint smile on her lips. “Bobby, I’ve got two years left. You really want me to waste then cooped up in this office?”
Turning away from the sunlight streaming through the window, Evelyn ottered a wry smile. For a second, Bobby wondered if his ears were playing tricks on him
He paused, uncertainty lacing his voice. “Ms. Brin, what did you just say?”
Without saying anything. Evelyn smiled, watching him process this shocking news.
Bobby sat in a daze, finding it hard to believe what he heard. He spent half a month looking for Evelyn and he hoped she would acknowledge that he made the right decision not to shut down the company.
However, she came back with a piece of shocking news.

“You… What happened, Ms. Brin? How could it be possible? Did the hospital make a mistake?”

Bobby couldn’t believe it. He admired Evelyn very much for her bold decision to leave when she was mistreated by Caleb.
However, there was no worse news than her life coming
“You heard me. Bobby. I want to sell the company and spend the rest of my life abroad. I’m dying, but I want to leave decently. I’m here to ask for your help, Bobby. After all, there are very few people who can help me here.”
