Ava did set the stage for her future. She couldn’t let go of Caleb too easily–that just wasn’t who she was.
all this to
As she pointed this out. Caleb hesitated before replying, his silence thickening the air. But Ava’s resolve only hardened at this display of indecision. To her, Caleb had always been a man of contemplation, reflective in his present dealings with her. His actions today spoke volumes, signaling a definitive intent. Yet, the latent hesitation in addressing her pointed question betrayed lingering affections for Evelyn.
But what Ava didn’t realize was that Caleb’s silence wasn’t due to indecision. “You don’t have to worry about these things.” Caleb’s demeanor settled, his gaze steady as tranquil waters. After a moment, he added firmly. “I’m not going to divorce her.”
He thought. Why didn’t I feel anything about Ava anymore and care about Evelyn instead? The person in front of me was the victim, and it was Evelyn who made Ava and I separate from each other, and because of this, I had never been kind to Evelyn. Why did I lose control of myself after Evelyn came back? Now I even wanted to give up on Evelyn. Did I have crush on Evelyn who has evil intentions?”
“Caleb, I don’t mean anything else. But yesterday, I saw that there was a man beside Evelyn when she came, and the relationship between the two was unusual. I heard that the man’s identity was not simple. If you really want to be with her, I think we should investigate the identity of that man first. Ava deliberately ignited the fire.
Even though Aron remained silent at the door of the operating room yesterday, Ava could sense his stance toward Evelyn. After looking into Aron’s identity last night, Ava didn’t uncover much, but it seemed sufficient for the present moment. It was foreseeable that conflicts would arise when two men vied for a woman. When that time came, Ava would have ample opportunities to intervene.
Today, Ava had been turning from hopeful to disappointed several times. She had thought that after she said that, Caleb might ask her something about what had happened between Evelyn and Aron at the door of the operating room yesterday, so Ava could take advantage of it. Unexpectedly, Caleb added in the end that he would not divorce Evelyn. But it was good. With this thought, Ava didn’t believe that there wouldn’t be a war between Caleb and Aron.
Pretending to be upset, Ava offered insincere words of concern in Caleb’s ward before leaving. However, as soon as she stepped out, she encountered the last person she wanted to see–Colin. Standing tall before her, Colin’s stoic presence irritated her, prompting her to roll her eyes in exasperation, but he remained unfazed.
“You just wait, there’s still plenty of time ahead.” Then she left the hospital in her three–inch high heels. She was indeed a careful woman. In order to make Caleb think that she stayed up late and worried about him, she didn’t sleep the whole night and specially wore delicate makeup which made her look weak.
