Chapter 7
Lucas raised an eyebrow and looked at us meaningfully, but he said nothing
That night, Simon hosted a dinner party at the villa to entertain the Bradshaws.
Ourchet complained to me that Lucas‘ assistant was sneaking around the dtchen while the coulding was going on, insisting on checking every single dish made for the party. He was definitely up to something.
While eating, an odd tension bung between Locas and susan. I pretended not to notice anything and focused on enjoying my food.
Halfway through dinner, I suddenly felt slightly stifled and excused myself to get some fresh air,
As soon as I stepped out of the garden and took a deep breath, Theard footsteps behind me.
Tuming around, I saw Lucas following me out.
He stopped beside me and looked down at me. “Jessie, were you hoping to speak with me alone when you left the table midway?”
I was Manned.
Before I could deny it, he took another step forward and said, “I know you and Simon have never been intimate despite being married for two years. I lmow you still love me, Jessie. How about we start over!”
I couldn’t believe my ears
“You want us to start over?” I asked, bewildered.
Lucas nodded. “Yeah. You’ve always wanted to be with me, haven’t you? Considering you’re mamed, it might be a little inconvenient, but I’ll handle it. Once you get divorced, I’ll make you the general manager of Bradshaw Corporation. How about that?”
His words sounded utterly foreign to me.
In the past, he tried to give Susan a high position in his company, but the board of directors objected due to her background,
With no otherchoice, he gave her a general manager a position and promised to love her for the rest of her life.
“I thought that you said you would love Ms, Chase for the rest of your life,” I asked.
Lucas scoffed. “Who even believes in lifelong devotion these days? I’m the CEO of Bradshaw Corporation. Beautiful women have never been in short supply around me. I’ve stayed loyal to her for five years. That’s already more than enough.
“She’s always working because that’s all she knows. She doesn’t understand art or poetry, doesn’t know any etiquette, and constantly throws tantrums about wanting to start her own business, I can’t stand ber any longer. ”
He reached out, trying to touch my hair. “Jessie, I know that you’re just acting like you love Simon tonight just to get my attention. You still love me, so why not come back to me?”
1 dodged his hand in dispost
