Chapter 12
Beneath us, snow–covered trees were illuminated by dazzling lights. Between them, violet roses bloomed amidst warm, inviting lights.
They looked pretty, bot the planting seemed a little rushed.
I glanced down at Simon’s hands, noting the tiny scratches covering them.
“You planted these?
Simon nodded lightly. “Ilmow you like violet roses, so I arranged for all these. They’re not perfect, but…”
“So that’s what he’s been doing the past three days!”
This is so sweet, I’m going to get diabetes.”
“What’s the deal with these two? Why are they meeting out here secretly?”
Under the soft glow of the moon, Simon and I strolled along the pathway through the roses.
I couldn’t stop thinking about him and Susan earlier. It made me feel uncomfortable. I kept thinking about how to bring it up, making it hard for me to focus on the
moment.
Perhaps noticing my distraction, Simon fell sent as he led me toward the villa.
The smell of coves faded as we walked. The air grew colder, too.
“Jessica,” he called softly.
I snapped back to my senses and saw that he had shifted into lus complete incubus form. Pitch–black wings unfolded from his back
Sorgething touched my palm. He had placed a silver dagger in my hand.
“It’s a full moon tonight, Jessica, During a full moon, my magic will lash out against me.
“When this happens, I will lose all my powers completely. If you choose to kill me now, I will not be able to stop you.
“My life is in your hands.”
I stared at the dagger, utterly battled. “Why would I want to kill you?”
“I know that that night only happened because you were drugged. I took advantage of you when you were vulnerable. These past few days, I’ve been avoiding you because I wasn’t sure how to face you,” he explained
We were beside the indoor swimming pool in the villa. He stopped and stood at the edge of the water.
“I thought that I could let you go if you really wanted to be with Lukas But when I saw you again tonight, I realized that I wanted more.
“Lust is a dangerous thing. It is addictive. It makes one lose control.”
His wings brushed gently against my cheeks as his tail wrapped around my waist, Simon was so close that I could feel his warm breath against my neck.
“You should know the nature of an incubus, Jessica. I’ve already held myself back for five years, and it hasn’t been easy. If 1 survive tonight, I will come to you every right to relive that night.”
