If anyone was behind this, it had to be either Cole or Wayne. They were probably frustrated about not finding what they were after and trying to shake me into slipping up. 

“Is that so?” Wayne drawled. “You handed him over to Officer Friendly?” 

I hummed nonchalantly in response. 

“These kinds of people don’t give much under normal interrogation,” Wayne added. 

I chuckled. “If cops heard you say that, they might take offense.” 

Wayne coughed lightly. “I just mean… someone like that won’t crack under standard procedures.” 

“Well, I trust Officer Friendly,” I replied, signaling the end of that thread,

The moment I said Hayden’s name, a sharp ache hit me.
