Chapter 86
Ahow weight pressed against Victoria’s chest
She wanted to leave without a second thought, but knew she could not afford to be as wilful as before. If she refused to attend, she might face unnecessary trouble in the future. She was just a newcomer. With the breach clause binding her, resigning was not an option.
“What did Mr. Tanner say to you? Jane approachell, noticing the troubled expression on her face.
*He asked me to attend a company dinner later. He said it was to welcome new employees Victoria adjusted her emotions, making sure not to let her frustration show. Jane’s brows furrowed slightly.
inankof;
Sensing something was off, Victoria asked, “Is there a problem?”
“It’s likely an opportunity for you to meet the company executives. They might be planning to groom you for a key role. During the dinner, make sure to offer a toast to the executives, Jane analyzed rationally
Victoria’s expression turned still. This was putting her in a difficult position.
“If I don’t go, will be singled out?” she asked.
Perhaps it was Jane’s calm demeanor that made her feel at ease, or maybe she exuded the warmth of an older sister. Either way, Victoria felt more relaxed in her presence. Jane met her gate and gave a straightforward answer. “Yes.”
Victoria’s mood darkened instantly.
“Don’t worry too much. The company executives are all reasonable people. They won’t make things difficult for you or take advantage of you. At most, they might talk a little too much,” Jane reassured her, as though speaking to a younger sister
After heating this, Victoria kw there was no way out.
She sent a message to Jeremiah in advance, asking him to pick up Edwin. She then checked the time before heading to the hotel.
Although Jae had tried to reassure her, Victoria remained highly cautious about the event. She had attended business dinners with Leon before and had, on occasion, caught lapses of the shady dealings happening in private rooms nearby.
She sent the hotel address to Jeremiah. If nothing went wrong, it would be fine. But if something did, at least someone would know her whereabouts.
“Mr. Tanner,” Just before getting out of the car, a thought struck her.
Timothy glanced at her. “What is it?
Victoria hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided to be direct. “Will Mr. Quigley be attending
Without missing a beat, Timothy lied with a straight face, “No.”
Before arriving, he had received a message from Henry, who worked closely with Leon. The instructions were clear. If Victoria asked about Leon’s attendance, he was to answer finalythat he would not be there.
The reason was unclear, but following instructions was all that mattered.
Victoria studied his face, trying to read something from his expression. However, having spent years in the corporate world, Timothy was an expert at keeping his emotions
When they arrived at the hotel, she had yet to enter when her phone rang. It was Jeremiah. She stepped aside to a quieter area before answering.
The moment she picked up, his sharp voice came through. “It’s your first day at work and they’re already taking you to Jonridge Hotel for dinner? Victoria answered bonestly, “They said it’s a welcome dinner for new employers.”
Jeremih found it odd
Would a normal welcome dinner behrld at a venue like Jonridge Hotel, a place typically reserved for large–scale business banquets? “There’s something leforgot to tell you” Victoria hesitated briefly but ultimately decided to be upfront.
The Conf Nexus literaris Leon,” alis said, glancing around rautely before speaking.
Jeremiah was dumbfounded. “Whit
10s mind buzzed, and he repeated in disbelief, king. “Ate you any It’s front
“Yes, I saw hâm myself. The manager even introduced him to us,” Victoria confirmed
“Don’s go to that dinner. I’m absolutely cent this is a trap he set up for you,” Jeremiah said Gummediately, his instincts kicking in.
