Chapter 77
The phone buzzed twice.
I was a message from Edwin. “Good night, Daddy”
Leon had heard these words countless times, but never had they struck him so deeply. He swiped on the screen, hesitating for a moment before replying, “Good night, sweetheart.
Edwin saw the message and pursed his lips slightly.
Once in the car, Jeremiah took Victoria to have her wound treated. After it was properly bandaged, he drove them back to Maple Serenity Residences.
He waited until they had entered the building before pulling out his phone to text her. “Don’t let the wound get wet. Take care of it properly”
Victoria only saw the message after putting Edwin to bed. She replied briefly “Got it.”
Jeremiah responded almost instantly. “You seemed a bit off today. Did Leon do something to upset you again?”
She replied. “Everything went well today. Why would I be in a bad mood?”
She didn’t want him to worry, so she didn’t tell the truth.
The interview went well, and Laura’s surgery was successful. If it weren’t for what had happened tonight, it really would’ve been a perfect day.
“You think I can’t tell how you’re feeling after being your friend for so many years?” Jeremiah sent a voice message. “You don’t have to tell me, and I won’t push, just remember that Susie and 1 are always here.”
Victoria replied with two simple words, “1 know.”
Tonight, she struggled to fall asleep in over 20 years of her life, she had never once backed down when she knew she was right.
Before marriage, her parents had shielded her from harm. No one dared to pressure or belly her.
After marriage, Leon had stood by her side, ensuring she never faced any hardship. But now, she was on her own.
And just at the very start, she had already let life turn into such a mess.
She wondered if Laura would be disappointed in her for apologizing when she wasn’t at fault after she woke up.
Victoria didn’t know when she finally fell asleep. When her alarm rang, her head telt heavy, and her eyes refused to open. Still, she got up early to prepare breakfast
Life without Lean meant handling everything on her own.
She had to take care of cooling, cleaning, and daily chores by herself. But this kind of routine gave her a sense of stability.
After quickly freshening up, she waited for Edwin to finish breakdast before dropping him off at school. She then headed to Waterside Manor. She kept preparing herself mentally during the entire ride.
Apologizing to Eva felt harder than swallowing poison. But sometimes, life was worse than death. And if she wanted to keep going, she had to let go of some of her pride
She arrived at Waterside Manor just before 8:30 am. Eva and Leon had just finished breakfast
Seeing Victoria at the door, Eva stood up from the couch. She was a bit surprised as she called out, “Victoria? What brings you here?”
She glanced at Leon, who was coming downstairs after changing into his work attire. Leon’s eyes darkened when he saw her. He didn’t expect her to actually come.
“Are you here to see me or Leon?” Eve asked, looking between them. Do you need me to step out?”
Victoria remained silent for a second and adjusted her emotions.
After all the mental preparation, she finally looked at Eva and spoke in a detached tone as if she were reporting at work.
“I’m here to see you. I lost my temper yesterday and hit you with my bag. I came to apologize. Fin sorry.”
Evrope for a second. It took her a moment to process.
“Iron_” Unsure how to respond, she turned to him for hirlp
Leon stepped in front of her, his presence commanding as he stared at Victoria. “Is that how you apologlar?–
