“If you can’t protect Mommy, I’ll just find a new dad to do it,” Edwin said with all the seriousness a child could muster, his voice sweet and innocent. “Jeremiah’s nice, I wouldn’t mind him being my stepdad”

Although he knew Edwin was saying this just to get under his skin, it still stung
“I won’t interfere with you ghing up on Mommy and finding someone else,” Edwin continued. “So don’t interfere when I find a new daddy.”

Leon tried reasoning with him. “When did I do that?”

“Before she saw you, she was still smiling. But after talking to you, her eyes lost their sparkle.”

“That doesn’t even make sense.” Leon flicked his forehead, although the affection in his heart remained unchanged. Edwin’s answer was firm “Mommy is the only reason that mutters.”
