Chapter 58
Victoria, Susie, and Jeremiah hadn’t seen each other in four years. But they often chatted in their group chat, so their bond hadn’t faded.
“No matter how much the world changes, I won’t,” Jeremiali declared, his voice firm and confident
Victoria chuckled
Jeremih glanced at the Quigley family’s training grounds and got straight to the point. “Are you here to pick up Edwin?”
“I just came to check on him. He’s probably already finished lunch and is taking his afternoon nap, I’ll pick him up after 6:00 pm.”
Victoria checked the time before her gaze landed on the suitcase near him. “You haven’t eater yet, have you?”
“I came straight from the airport to surprise you. When would I have had time to eat?” Jeremiah said bluntly.
Victoria smiled faintly and replied, “My treat.”
Coming here had been a spur–of–the–moment decision. After everything that had happened with Wayne, she just wanted to see Edwin to lift her spirits. Whenever she felt down, seeing him always made things better
But now, with Jeremiah back from abroad, the weight of the afternoon’s events seemed to dissipate.
“No way.” Jeremiah grabbed his suitcase, his tone as casual as ever
“Il Bossy Susie finds out I asked you to treat me to a meal, she’d come back and tear me to pieces!”
The familiar warmth of their friendship washed over Victoria, breaking through the gloom that had been weighing her down for days.
Come on. My treat” Jeremih led her to his car.
To plan this reunion, he had someone send his car to the airport while he tracked down her location. Thankfully, his efforts paid off, and he managed to find her.
What they didn’t know was that their every move was being watched by someone inside a black Maybach not far away.
The tension inside the car was almost tangible. Aaron didn’t dare to breathe too loudly when he caught a glimpse of Leon’s key expression.
Itis resentment toward Henry had reached its peak. There was no one chasing them. Why on earth did Henry have to drive that fast earlier?
Henry was even more frustrated with himself. It wasn’t like they’d never see Victoria again. Why did he have to floor the gas?
Aaron finallycouldn’t take the suffocating tension any longer. “I just remembered there’s something urgent at the company I need to handle. I’ll bead back first” As he spoke, he discreetly reached for the door handle. But it wouldn’t open
He printed his teeth and glared at the ever–expressionless Henry in the driver’s seat. “Henry, unlock the door.”
Henry acted like he didn’t hear Aaron
He wasn’t stupid. If he opened the door now, he’d be left alone to deal with Leon’s fury alone. And judging by the current atmosphere, there was no way he’d survive that.
“Follow that car,” Leon ordered, his voice devoid of warmth. His gaze was locked on Jeremiah’s obnoxiously flashy sports car. It was the kind that served no purpose other than showing off
“Yes, Mr. Quigley,” Henry replied.
Not wanting to get caught in the storm brewing ahead, Aaron glanced over cautiously and asked, “Before we follow them, how about dropping me off first? I can head back on my
Η
“In a rush?” Leon’s tone gave nothing away.
Aaron couldn’t tell what he was thinking. “A little.”
Leon’s voice remained indifferent. “Then you’ll just have to wait.”
Aaron and Henry were both speechless.
Henry wisely stayed silent and focused on driving.
Aaron could feel the tension in the car thickening Trapped in the eye of the storm, he made a decision. He had to quit his habit of gossiping and prying into other people’s business.
