Chapter 16 The End
Ever since then, I had turned all my focus into philanthropy and established a charity foundation to help free women from domestic violence and sponsor sick children. A year after Grayson’s death, I visited the cemetery.
Of course, I wasn’t here to pay my respects to that bastard. Holding a bouquet of sunflowers and a box of mini cake, I stood before an unnamed tombstone–the final resting place of my unborn child.
I did not care whether he was Sean’s or Grayson’s child. Even if my son’s existence was a mistake, I thanked him for giving me a taste of the joys of motherhood.
“Darling, I hope you get to live another life in a happy family.”
I placed the cake and flowers by the blank tombstone and wiped it clean.
Then, I slowly sat down with my back against the tombstone, feeling the breeze against my skin.
Everything had finally settled.
Once, I had naively believed that holding onto Grayson meant having the world in my grasp. But now, I understood that true happiness was something only’I could give myself in a life consisting of countless mundane days.
My life was only about to begin.
