Chapter 10 Olivia’s Miscarriage
“What’s all this about?”
I towered over Olivia in a quiet corner of the park. She sat on the bench silently with her head lowered.
I added, “I don’t have much patience. If you refuse to talk to me, I won’t waste my time on you.”
Even then, she refused to speak.
I had no patience to wait for her. After I took a few steps, I heard a dull thud as she fell to her knees.
“I’m begging you…” Kneeling on the floor, Olivia reached out to pull me back. Her hands, neck, and face were all covered in swollen bruises. “Please… give my baby their share of the company stocks.”
I moved her hand away gently, only to watch her weakly collapse to the other side. At that moment, I couldn’t tell whether she was in a bad condition or just putting on an act. “Olivia, do you really think you could fool me with that same trick you’ve pulled many times?”
Arms crossed, I coldly watched Olivia, who coughed furiously on the ground. Then, she once again fell onto her knees.
I had no time for her fake act, but as I tried to leave, she pulled me back.
“Please! I’m begging you for help, or that maniac will surely kill me and Alex!”
I stopped in my tracks and turned around to stare at Olivia. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying.
“Who’s the maniac? What are you talking about?”
But Olivia refused to tell. She just kept rambling and begging for my help.
An idea struck me when I watched her unstable mental condition.
“Is Sean Lambert the maniac you talk about?”
Olivia, who had tried to pull me back with all her might, suddenly froze, as though someone had cast a spell on her.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” She shook her head like a lunatic while mumbling to herself.
I rested my fingers on the swollen bruise on her skin. “Did he hit you?”
She immediately pushed my hand away. Then, she stood up and glared at me with her bloodshot eyes. “Are you going to help me or not?”
I found her ludicrous. How could she sound so demanding and indignant when she was the one asking me for help?
I took another glance at the wounds on her body and left.
Behind me, she screamed in a shrill voice, “Heidi Ross, you’ll regret this!”
I had my regrets. Had not been softhearted and thought of letting Olivia live, I wouldn’t have faced trouble after trouble.
Even then, I underestimated Olivia’s ability to stir trouble. That very night, I was woken up by a call from my lawyer.
At the same time, news of Olivia’s miscarriage and hospitalization had spread like wildfire online, along with the photo of her kneeling before me at the park. “Woah, I had felt bad for the wife who got cheated on! But now, she looks like the villain.”
“Is this some scripted story? I’ve seen them on the news a few times.”
“That wife had hit the mistress‘ son before. I can’t believe she refused to spare the unborn child!”
Gossip about me spread across the Internet. I immediately called Cliff to verify the news.
“Is it true that Olivia suffered a miscarriage?”
Olivia’s unborn baby was, after all, a proud bargaining chip that she held over me. Why would she give up on it that easily?
“We’ve checked with the hospital. It’s true.”
The gentle blast of warmth from the heater melted the chill on my body.
Slowly, Sean’s name surfaced in my mind. Just then, I heard some movements outside my room door.
